Harry Glickman interview

Dang ALLEN sometimes can be sooo pompous. I didn't realize that he didn't call all those in the history of Portland when they went into the hall of fame.

This was a good read.

Great Read. Loved this:

During the Glickman era, the Blazers became one of the NBA’s model
franchises, winning a championship in their seventh season that earned much
respect around the league.

“One of my proudest possessions, I have a letter from (then commissioner)
Walter Kennedy after we won the championship — unsigned,” Glickman says. “It’s
the last letter he ever dictated before he died.

“His secretary sent it to me with a note saying she wanted me to have it. He
wrote, ‘You and I are the only ones left who know the things you had to go
through to get this title.’ ”

I love old people. I can't wait to get that point in my life where I get to say whatever the hell I want ... well even more of whatever the hell I want.

I've seen Glickman a couple times recently in person. Holy cow, the dude looks older than dirt. Literally.

Glickman, too, was responsible for Adelman’s hiring as an assistant coach for Jack Ramsay in 1983 out of Chemeketa Community College.

“After Jim Lynam left, Jack wanted George Karl,” Glickman says. “George wanted a little more than we wanted to pay, but we’d have probably paid it or split it in the middle. I don’t think money would have stopped us from getting whoever Jack wanted.

“In the interim, I asked Jack to give a courtesy interview to a guy who played for us and was coaching down in Salem. He said sure, and Rick got the job.”

Glickman acts as if he discovered Adelman, who was a well-known name from being an NBA player for years. I used to see Adelman in the daily box scores, and sometimes on national TV when he played. He was no find as a coach. He was just getting experience at the junior college, waiting for an NBA employment offer.

I thought he was talking about me. Which means I have to defend myself. Which means I have to re-read the article, re-remember my memories of Adelman as a player and early coach, then figure out my old post above.

I sure hope he was talking about you.

Well, he could have been talking about you. Obviously Glickman had to hear and know who Adleman was to give him the interview. That's not him saying he discovered Adleman at all. That's saying he gave him an opportunity.
