Blazers claim hickson off waivers

Sam Amick ‏ @sam_amick
Source says Portland has been awarded forward JJ Hickson from waivers. Golden State misses out.

Why the fuck?

Seriously asinine

because he's only 23, and just last year, put up 13 and 9 for Cleveland. If it's between him and Craig Smith playing, at this point in our season, would much rather err on the side of youth with ANY upside over a proven mediocre commodity.

I would rather err on the side of a higher lotto pick

How does the waiver system work? Nice pick up. Is he now a restricted free agent this summer and we can offer him the most?

Would assume Okur is cut.

As for claiming him, I would guess we generated a TPE from the Wallace deal, and used that to claim him.

Why not keep Okur and cut Williams? A big center hurt or not has more value.

value for what? he is expiring.

WTF? I like Hickson and would love to see him stick around. Guess this gives us perhaps an inside track to keep him around next year.

Everything I saw yesterday said that he was going to GWS, though, so I'm a little surprised.

This is just what we needed. This is the shot in the arm that will get us back to the elite.

:devilwink:

I like the pickup. Why not take a look? We always wonder why the Blazers never do this.. and now they did. Now they need to find out how they're going to evaluate Flynn, Thabeet and Hickson over 20 games.

He's 23 and has shown glimpses of a being a good player. I like the signing. A young player to possibly build with going toward the future.

As far as tanking games this year, this move surprises me. I like the move as far as getting a decent player.

He played well in Cleveland. Anyone know how the waiver system works?

So what is his contract and and how does that effect us and does it impact our cap for this summer at all? And like HCP how does all of that work when its on waivers?

Why are you guys bitching about how this effects our draft position? We're not going to be in the lottery after this move. This move is solely for this year, and for making our run into, and through, the playoffs.
