Hong Kong Layover

I'll have a 2 day layover in Hong Kong in November.

Any suggestions on where to book a hotel that isn't too expensive but a good location. I don't know chinese yo.

Any other tips or suggestions or shit to see. Kinda just want to eat roasted duck, ride one of those old ships from Enter the Dragon and buy chinese trinkets in the markets. Not really interested in taking trips to top of mountains to take photos and stuff like that.

I'd stay in Kowloon anywhere around Nathan East Rd..great food and shopping and easy to get to Hong Kong from there, minutes away on the subway. It's cheaper than Hong Kong for hotels

Im jealous this is on my bucket list. Where is your final destination and have you spent much time in Asia? Ive been all over SE and lived in Tokyo for awhile, they are not Hong Kong but Asia is crazyness.

Just about anybody speaks english in Hong Kong..language won't be a problem

I think Hong Kong has some of the best restaurants in the world...it's all about the food when I go there...Sly is wrong though, the happy ending is in Thailand...Hong Kong is not cheap when it comes to massages with happy endings or opium dens

Going to Philippines for a family reunion (Manila, Boracay and Subic) and Phil air has an option for a HK Layover on the way home. I've been to Japan for a month and Philippines a bunch of times but that's it.

Kinda wanted to get a suit made but probably won't have time for all of that shit, I'll look some spots up and make a decision when I get there.

Wanted to hit up Tim Ho Wan which is michelin starred dim sum but they have two locations in manila, so I'll just go there.

Wish I could give some advice on this trip, but all I can say is Asia is awesome. 15 years ago I backpacked from Singapore up through Thailand. Eating mushroom on a beach at Koh Samui cafe under the warm blanket sky and next to the velvet water sheets is one of my best memories in life. That and loosing my brain at the Koh Phangan full moon party (look that shit up and go)....... I think I need another vacation.

Yeah, i've been doing Europe a lot, just like it over there. Not sure about asia, we'll see I'll try to get out there more but I'm cutting down on travel for a bit after this to focus on making money. woo woo

A lot of people are doing location independant businesses in asia because its so fucking cheap. Dunno if I can be around asians that much though tbh

Europe is great but Asia is like another planet. Love it for different reasons, cheap being one of them. Western Europe damn near broke me. The chaos of Asia can be a little unnerving sometimes though and their personal space bubbles are nonexistent. We are planning out next summer, looks like Peru or Panama at this point but I wont know for sure till I pay for braces and get my taxes back. Wish I could do Europe again. Damn money and work, those are my primary road blocks to all the fun in my life.

I'm really not a fan of the humidity. Even the hotels have pretty shitty water flow, gotta go to the spas to get a dope shower.

Prez - I just did the Hong Kong suit thing this summer. Total disaster. I went to the place that has the best online reviews - Sam's Tailor. Part of it was my fault as, like you, I only had 2 days there so I couldn't get a second fitting. That said, they said it would not be a problem. When I received the suit 3 weeks later back here in Portland it didn't come close to fitting. "Ill fitting" would be generous. And of course I couldn't go in to get it fixed.

In other news, I agree with Riverman - Kowloon is where you want to be.

But in Hong Kong isn't it impossible to do anything non-publicly? Probably one of the most crowded places humans ever shared. Narrowest skyscrapers I've ever seen..seems like some are about 20 ft wide and 30 stories high.

Thinking of skipping the peak. I mean its just a high vantage point. I think I'm going to spend the day to go to Lan Tau and the Big Buddah and Po Lin monestary instead.

Go around Kowloon a bit, ride the Star Ferry, check out the Temple Street Night Market, Watch the Building Light Show, ride the long escalators around and get my BBQ duck.

Lan Tau is a nice break from the chaos but I love the food in Kowloon...roast pork on crispy noodles with sauce..

Hong Kong was always a good place to visit, so I was going to jump right in there. Then I remembered, that was way back, probably buried under a new layer
by now.
