How often do you play it?
What do you define as "hooky"? I mean, I have several weeks of PTO each year, and I can use it however/whenever I want. Does just taking a random vacation day qualify? If so, I just did that yesterday. Of course, that resulted in my wife giving me tasks to do, so it wasn't really much of a vacation...but I digress...

My wife is the secretary at a middle school. Part of her job is filling positions when teachers are sick. She says that it’s crazy how many teachers call out sick. Sometimes even once a week. She contributes it to the kids being so hard to deal with these days.

Yeah I guess just using a sick day when you aren’t really sick but just wanting a ‘mental health day’.

my wife does that too. So I do the bare minimum to make it look like I’ve done stuff and then just play NBA2k the rest of the day

My employers encourage mental health days. Of course I'm white collar, so that may be a difference.

Not nearly as often as I should, especially during this busy football season! I think a lot of it has to do with how I was raised, mom was a strict in her no days off of school unless really sick policy. On top of that I remember getting my first real job and about a month in coming home early from a shift because it was slow, no one wanted to leave and being the new guy I got my hours cut, dad was not happy with me when he thought I volunteered to leave. Obviously that has stuck with me and I don't take as many breaks as I should but need to be better about it. As a teacher we get 10 yearly 'leave' days and I typically use 5 and stash 5 for a rainy day.

This thread is such a disappointment.

I misread the title as “Nooky”.

In third grade I would wake up every day before my parents and would go into their room to tell them I felt "sick". I got perfect attendance in school that year.

Never. I'll call out if I'm sick, because going to work sick is a shitty thing to do. But I won't call in because I don't feel like going to work.

Yeah it must be more common in my line of work. Its more of a daily grind than a lot of jobs

An older employee at my work once told me years ago before he retired that you win no prizes for having hundreds of hours of sick time
Our PTO comes in form of a monthly check/deposit. I invest as much as i can. That can give me some prizes out of not using my sick time.

Yeah, I'm on a computer all day. I have a pretty abusive/hostile work environment though.

I’ve taken 3 mental health days that could be considered hooky this year. I was just really tired and didn’t want to get up at 5:30 am lol

but my boss encourages this so, swaaaaaag
Had a boss one time that didn't care if we called in 30 minutes before a shift. I asked him one time why he let that happen, his response "I figure they have somewhere better to be and if they are here they'll just be a pain in the ass, as long as the work gets done than I don't care."
