How did Cashman miss this?

I would of enjoyed seeing Rios playing RF in The Bronx. The heir apparent to O'Neill, (tho Rios is no Pauly), moreso the heir apparent to Ichiro....wonder where Ichiro will land? Hopefully Seattle gets their head out of their ass and Hires him if for nothing more than an Over Due Farewell Tour, which he deserves as much as any great player...!!!

I agree Rob, Ichiro has always been a class act. I hope someone (and yes Seattle would be great) gives him a spot.

Rios? 11 mil for a year? 11 mil? lol....nah, I don't think so.

He (33 yrs old) batted .280 for the Rangers last season, but produced only four home runs and 54 RBIs in 131 games.

11 mil? nah Don't think so. Glad the Yanks didn't bite. Leave Rios where he is.

Jed Lowrie has been, and is a pretty good hitter with pop in his bat.
But where would he play? 3b? SS? Is he REALLY an "everyday shortstop"?
What about Refsnyder and Pirela? They go back to the AAAA level? lol

He has played a grand total of 83 games at 3b since 2008 with his last 11G at 3b in 2011 -
-and the Yanks may have already secured a deal with Headley.

I can't blame the Yanks for passing on Lowrie -
I'd rather go with Headley at 3b and Prado at 2b....or Refsnyder at 2b and Prado at 3b.

I have absolutely no problem with Cashman passing on Lowrie.
Lets not get hysterically paranoid over Cashman. lmao

Seriously compare Rios to Gardner, and Brett will be making 12.5 Million. Not much difference in the two's stats either. So Brett for 12.5, but not Rios at 11 Mil???? I honestly don't get it....

Sure Rios is not the same player from the Toronto Homer Dome, and his numbers have been in slow decline, yet I see not much difference in comparison....

I wanted Lowrie prior to the Didi signing. As far as Rios, I think his best years are behind him so I've no problem with him.

Gardner is the Yankees' LF, he's already signed and is 2 years younger.
Beltran is expected back for RF duty and the Yanks - believe it it or not - may be committed to having Refsnyder or Pirela availabe for RF duty in the event Beltran can't do it full time or needs more days off, or occasional DH.

Rios would've been a fairly high paid part time back-up RF/DH for the Yanks while they have Beltran and Refsnyder/Pirela also in the mix? It just isn't a good fit. Nor should it be- imo.

Let one of the kids soak up the playing time instead.
We know about Refsnyder being primed for a chance...but also, by just about all accounts Pirela is a solid hitter who has hit at all levels in the minors, is 25 yrs old...it's time for the Yanks to see what he can do...and they know it. Thankfully.

Gardner is the next Yankee captain.....repeat after me!

Wait...don't play the victim card just yet....you need to rally allies and try to isolate me first. Stick to the script, lol!

Sure, the Yanks could've lived with Lowrie as their mostly regular SS this year, and on the surface it looks enticing having a guy who can play SS and bat .260 with 16 HRs, but he already has below avg range and the extent of him being a starting SS is he has started 115G at SS in 2013,
...129G in 2014, and 46G, 90G in two other seasons.

It seems the Yanks were already committed to finding a young better ranging SS and they made the move with Didi.

I would welcome having Lowrie on the team as a back-up infielder/DH if I could've saved money in other areas.
And the Yanks are still looking for another SP which should cost a few bucks.

For someone that accuses me of disagreeing just to disagree..... Pot, meet kettle!

Stating that I'm not surprised by your response is not disagreeing with you. Again..............................why do I bother?

And blg, good points on Lowrie.
