Ha! You hardly ever see a post this dumb. Then somebody likes it!
What's dumb about it? Seems pretty logical to me, obviously deportation doesn't work... so again what more do you think they should do?

Oh wait let me guess, build a wall?

Think it might work? Probably better than the bus ride to Imperial Beach.
No I don't think it will work at all. Much of the illegal border crossing happens miles below ground. Even if you build a wall 30 miles deep it will be drilled/blasted through.

But maybe we could spend trillions installing sensors that let us know when it happens, sure we won't be able to stop those people from coming through, but we could know there is a compromise and spend millions to fix it so that it can happen again.

What do you think is the solution? I sure as hell don't think Multnomah County has their role in place.

More like, dozens of feet.

If it's Imperial Beach it's not deportation. They do actually need to make it to TJ to be deportation. In the mean-time - enjoy pictures of dogs surfing in Imperial Beach at the random pictures thread above.

Jailing them like anyone else when they commit assault/rape/etc.

This is only common sense. However, the argument for deportation is that we'll end up with the criminal element of the nations in our hemisphere in our jails at our expense.

TJ is only a few more steps and hardly any difference to the last administration.

This is nonsense and you know it. I have never had to spend a couple of hours to cross from Imperial Beach to National City. Try doing that from TJ...

National City
Well this is right. I probably should have said, a bus ride to National City to begin with. But I don't think that is your point.

And my point is, taking a few hours to get out of TJ for a 20 time deportee won't get it done. But we do have new instruction on the Border now you know.

update
Should have said, bus ride to San Ysidro. That's about what it meant to the last admin.

Because it's really stupid logic. Akin to saying "Laws don't work because people keep breaking them, so what's the point in having them anyways?"

Yeah, have you heard the latest? He wants to build a transparent wall so people don't hit on the head by drugs being flung over the wall. He also wants to make the wall a solar power wall. What a visionary!

Laws that actually don't seem to be working to significantly deter something should be revisited to "architect" a different solution. Assuming you're interested in results.

What I said was that deportation apparently isn't working. Where did I say we should quit enforcing laws? Also, what about the second part of my comment where I asked what else he wants them to do?

Somewhat related:

Former Arizona lawman Joe Arpaio, who gained national prominence for his tough stance against illegal immigration, was found guilty on Monday of criminal contempt for violating the terms of a 2011 court order in a racial profiling case.

Arpaio, 85, who lost his bid for re-election as Maricopa County sheriff last November after 24 years in office, faces a maximum penalty of six months in jail and a fine when he is sentenced on the misdemeanor offense on Oct. 5.

...

Bolton delivered her verdict more than four weeks after the conclusion of a five-day non-jury trial in which Arpaio stood accused of deliberately violating the injunction issued six years ago by another federal judge.

Bolton found Arpaio guilty of contempt for intentionally defying the 2011 court order, which barred his officers from stopping and detaining Latino motorists who were singled out solely on suspicion that they were in the country illegally.

And the issue is that that's just extremely subjective. Hundreds of people are assaulted or murdered every day in this country in spite of laws saying how bad that is. Are any of these laws that are in place actually deterring the act itself? The penalty for breaking them can help make things safer after the fact, but you'll still have to have people committing the act in the first place.

Relative to how many people would be assaulted/murdered without the laws? Probably. A lot of experts (I'm not trying to imply that it's all of them) suggest that deportation deters illegal immigration and/or crime committed by illegal immigrants significantly less than laws against murder deter murder. Studies are important to tease out which laws are ineffective and which aren't.

Your post certainly implied that we should not be enforcing deportations, unless I misunderstood it.

Very good. A major point in the last election.

And I would argue that the number of people who still choose to follow proper immigration procedures provides some evidence that immigration laws still provide a deterrence effect as well. Otherwise a lot more people would be flooding across borders with no regard for the consequences, no?
