It depends how soon we are actually going to go full tank and trade Grant and Simons for draft capital. If we do it soon it could be 5-7 years. If we keep them another year it could be more like 10-11, or even a lot longer... Drafting multiple stars is the only way we're going to get back there to stay. Maybe we could eventually get there for a season if 1 of Sharpe or Scoot becomes a top 10 player... maybe. Otherwise they need a LOT more help.

I'm hoping it'll happen soon, and that one of the new coaches we brought in is a talent who can take over and be a top head coach. I think they have potential.

So I'm very optimistically picking 5-7 years at best.

I don't think you become a contender by accident. These days, first and foremost, you have to have ownership willing to pay and take risks. Look at BOS. Would the Vulcans ever pay that tab? NFW. But somebody will and they will gladly do it to own a champ. Even if it is just to impress their other billionaire friends. Never underestimate the power of a human ego.

In other words, Jody either sells the team or Paul comes to her in a dream and tells her to get her ass in gear and WIN.

if I knew when Jody Allen will sell the Blazers I'd have a better idea of when Portland might be top-6. Won't happen with Jody & the Vulcans in charge
So maybe there should be a poll and how long it will be before they sell? From what I understand she doesn't have too any time soon?

Maybe Jody and the Vulcans including Bert, think that if we cant have a legit contender without being a mega taxed team, their objective instead is having a golden Goose laying golden eggs for however long. NBA franchises are one of the most sought after investments for equity firms and such. The value will just go up each year regardless of how competitive the team is.

I like how we get the complaints that both we have too high of a payroll for a shit team, AND our owner is cheap.
I don't necessarily think she's cheap. I just think Vulcan and Kolde are shitty at running the Blazers and I don't want them to have any part of it.

I'd much prefer a Phil Knight led group. Which will have to happen pretty soon if it's going to happen at all.

I think if this team hasn't made it to the top six in the league in four years than this iteration of the rebuild will have failed and we will most likely be starting over and at that point it would be anyone's guess.

It's been five seasons since we were in the top six. That was nineteen... 19 seasons after we were last in the top six in the league. So if adding a superstar to the young pieces we currently have doesn't yield a contender and I guess it could happen in that 5-7 year range but if it doesn't happen with these guys it's likely not to happen again for a very long time.

19 years between our 2000 squad and the 2019 Dame led team.

I like the potential of our young roster. We have a lot of good young talent. But...

It feels like we are one key player away from being a top 6 team. Not sure how, or when, we land that key player? We are almost too talented to land that player in the draft.

In 2009, we were tied for 5th-best league record. Lost in the first round to Houston, but they were definitely in the conversation.

You have to pay AND want to win. They arent the same thing.

Why would you think their ultimate goal isn't to win?
I believe there are many franchises across the 4 major sports which, if given a binary choice between title contention and profitability, would choose the latter over the former.

Or to put it another way, some see forming a competitive team as a means to drive revenue through ticket sales, media consumption, and advertising; whereas others utilize those revenue streams with the intention of achieving their primary goal of title contention.

I can see why some would believe that current ownership is more interested in sales than success.

I ran across this 76er fan's breakdown of the Blazers and it's pretty deep and well done if you're interested...he talks about the future and how we'll stack up in the west. I thought it was a good listen.

I think we're 3 years away from being a top seed in the west if we're lucky with health and a few guys really pop in their second or third year....Clingan is going to be one of those guys who'll be in a groove after 3 years facing NBA bigs. I hope Sharpe and Scoot breakout this year.

I went with 5-7, but I think it will be 4-5 years. Much depends on if Portland can jettison the vets that need to be moved, securing a top two pick in the next draft and possibly the one after.

Screw the one after. If they get a top-2 pick (I'd even say top-5) next summer, it's time to start trying to win.

I agree, but if they trade Grant, Ant and Ayton they are incredibly young. That will put them in high lottery again after the capture the Flagg draft. But it would be fine for them to play to win with that young core, just not expecting them to make play in.

Depends on what the returns on those deals are. Also, I'd say Ayton won't be traded unless/until Clingan is ready to play starter's minutes.

But yeah, I'm not saying that a high pick in 2025 means they're in the play-in by 2026...just saying that another high pick in 2026 would not be needed to build a playoff team.

I don't think the goal should be a playoff team. The goal should be a dynasty. If we fall short and get a playoff team that's fine.

We already suck. The hard work of going from good to bad has already been done. Let's do it right.

Depends if we get Cooper Flagg or AJ Dybantsa

don’t see a superstar on this roster
