Do you guys remember the lengths you went through to get out of school when you were kids? Putting your head close to the floor vents with the heater on to get your thermometer to read in the fever zone. Can of vegetable or split p soup in the toilet. Complaining that your spleen hurt. You swore up and down that you felt plain sick and were legitimately dying.

Well my son brought it to a new level. Though he didn't do it purposely. His first day of 1st grade is\was tomorrow. He ran down the hall tonight, tripped, and dived head first into the corner of the wall. Split his head open pretty good. At the hospital waiting. Looks like glue maybe stitches.

I hope he's okay!

One of my kids starts Kindergarten this year and he's counting down the days until it starts like it's Christmas.

He's ok. He's a trooper

My 4th grade year I woke up every day and went to my parents room telling my mom I was sick. She never bought it. That was the only year I had perfect attendance.

I skipped school exactly twice in my 13 years of going. Once when I stayed up to watch the Nixon vs Kennedy election returns which weren't decided until late at night. The second time was during my senior year when someone in my grade level practically ordered the rest of us to have a "Senior Skip Day". Hey, what could I do? Orders is orders. Otherwise I took school pretty seriously.

...in the Portland Metro area the best way to get out of school was to pray for 0.25" of snow!
Funny but when I went to school, there had to be at least six inches of snow before they would close the school for the day. That limit lasted from kindergarten to my senior year of high school. Oh, there was one exception, we closed the following day of a wind storm called the Columbus Day Storm.

Ouch, sorry to hear about that but kids do that sort of thing. I sometimes am awe struck that I'm still alive.

No. I never did any of that. I was a nerd and a rule follower. I was told I was supposed to go to school every day, so I just...did. Never tried to get out of it, never even skipped a single class in high school. Something wrong with me, I guess.

Always good to show up to school with a nice wound or scar on day one. Cements that tough guy mystique. To quote Keanu: "Pain heals, chicks dig scars, and glory lasts forever."

Awwww... poor kid.

You had a good mom. Once I hit 11 my mother had no idea whether I went to school or not. She was still asleep when I left.

My son did the same several years ago. Some random night he tripped and split his forehead open. They glued his

I remember trying to fake a high fever once, and warmed the thermometer too much and it read some ridiculous number

There's a bike path behind the high school I went to that led to a lot of restaurants, a lot of times my friends and I would leave for lunch and not come back before we had licenses and cars. After that we would just drive away and not come back. I was a delinquent.

Hope your kid is ok CC...wish him a speedy recovery...I never skipped school, I loved school. If I didn't go to school I'd have to work on the farm all day long. I'd make excuses to have to go to the library after school so I wouldn't have to muck out the dairy barns until dark.

One time when I was in my early 40s and very conservative in dress and general appearance, I went to a barber who was elderly and Swedish. He looked very conservative. He asked me what I wanted done and I said something like "Oh, something like I've got now. We chatted while he spent quite a bit of time on my hair. When he got done he handed me a mirror and asked me how I liked it. OMG, he had given me a spiked hair style. I didn't know whether to laugh of get angry. I finally settled down and got him to do it all over again only this time it was very conservative.

Try as I may, I'll never forget that.

He's good. Keeping him home today for observation. He didn't have to get stiches. Steri strips and blue glue. Gonna take up to a month to heal. He wasn't to happy about the Dr. cleaning his wound and applying the strips/glue, but he was afterwards. The nurse gave him a whole jar of toys for a prize.

I remember when I was a kid I needed stitches a couple times. Once I was fighting over scissors with my cousin and she let go. The scissors plunged into my head just above my left eye. I pulled them out and tore all the way down my nose. Walked out into the living room, my face full of blood. My mom nearly died at the sight of me. Needed something like 76 stitches.

At least he didn't give you an old timey Swedish haircut

I faked being sick constantly. And I was sick a fair bit too. I think my mom knew when I was faking, but she let me get away with it.

Hated school, just hated it, starting with kindergarten all the way through graduate school.

To the topic, I broke my arm once the day before school started.

My dude cried this morning when I told him to wear jeans instead of shorts. I kept him home and made him stand outside all day in his shorts.

Jk... except for the first part.

Glad he’s okay, Chris!

My first day of kindergarten I was so excited to finally get to go. My mother walked me to school with one of my (still to this day) best friends. As soon as my mother left, I kicked the teacher in the shins and hid out in the cloak room the rest of the day. After that I was fine. But it was still one of my favorite school memories. And the only time in my educational experience where I actually felt like I was in control of the situation. The other 14 years of formal education sucked in general (except for the social part).

Glad your son is okay OP. I'm on the opposite side now. My first day of teaching at a college is today (just a freshmen intro class while I'm coaching until I get my masters next year) and I am currently at the ER with one of my players less than an hour and a half before I'm theoretically supposed to be teaching.
