Get Firefox NowFor those of you who have not lived under a rock for the last six months, you have probably heard of FireFox. It is completely free and open-source (anyone can make extensions, themes, or add-ons) web browser by Mozilla. I will give you a guarantee that it kills Internet Explorer in every aspect. Speed, security, look, add ons, extensions, themes, tabs... bottom line: Firefox is the best. If you have not tried it, at least give it a try. One of the best features of FireFox is the ability to download extensions that people have made and edit some of the values. The first thing we are going to do is speed up our page load times a LOT with these few simple tweaks.Open up FireFox, and in the Address Bar type in about:config and press enter. This has all of the values stored inside of the browser and can be edited.Change browser.tabs.showSingleWindowModePrefs to true
This will enable some tab options inside the options menu. Through this you can tell FireFox to have a website open in a new tab instead of a new window when requested and whatever else. This will not speed up FireFox, but it is good to do.Change network.http.pipelining to true
This enables pipelining. Without getting into detail, it speeds up FireFox BIG time.Change network.http.pipelining.maxrequests to 100
This will use the newly enabled pipelining feature at 100. Again, speeds up FireFox BIG time. Now, in the about.config, right click and press New. Choose integer. Name it nglayout.initialpaint.delay with a value of 0. This is the amount of time the browser will wait before acting on information it comes across. There is one utility to auto-optimize FireFox called
FireTune. This will change the values like the ones that you see above, along with many other advanced settings that will substantially improve page load times and browser speed. I have not used it myself, as I prefer to optimize my own settings, but it is another alternative to those of you who do not wish to go messing around in your firefox about:config manually. Finally, there is one good FireFox extension for speeding up browser performance...
FasterFox: Works on the same principles as the editing you have done in About:Config yourself, but does other things as well to optimize performance. I
HIGHLY recommend this extension for anyone user FireFox.<u>Some other extensions to consider</u>
NoScript - NoScript adds protection to your security by dis-allowing web-pages to load Javascript, Java or other plug-ins unless you specify otherwise for that site.
Ad-Block - Allows the blocking of ads by simply right clicking the ad in firefox adblock on the ad.
If you want to change FireFox look a little bit, you could get a nice
Theme . Personally, I use Noia 2.0 (eXtreme). All that a theme does, is change the look much like a skin does in an application. All of these are hosted right on the FireFox site and they personally check all of them, so you don't have to worry about anything.I hope that if you already use FireFox, that you try this and enjoy the big performance boost. For those of you still on IE, I hope that you will at least give FireFox a chance. It really is faster, stronger and more secure.
I also posted this so that everyone who has been complaining about the speed of NFLC loading could feel a little better and experience a little bit more of the NFLC New Skins without lagging.Venom, can I pin this?
