We have one spot available to the minimum 14 needed players. How do you think the Blazers will fill it?

Jrue - Scoot -
Sharpe - Thybulle - Rupert
Camara - Grant - Murray
Deni - Timelord -
Clingan - Yang - Reath

The team can (but doesn't have to) sign a 15th player as well
The team has 2 of 3 available two way spots (Caleb Love signed)

I'm thinking as we're trying to win now we'll sign another veteran and then keep the last spot open for trades/injuries during the season.

Jabari qualifying offer was only $2.5 million - I was surprised we didn't give him that. Would be a bit odd to sign him now as we kind of discarded the first option to retain him.

Seems like we could use a 3rd string PG
Other position we seem to lack is small ball center

Murray will take all of walkers small ball center minutes

still waiting on if there's more to the Jrue trade
That would just be announced as a separate agreed to trade though.

Have you ever heard of a trade that just on its own had an additional player subsequently included when it was finalized? I don't recall ever hearing that.

Yeah the deal was left uncompleted so BOS/PDX could each have more cap flexibility to include subsequent deals. I never thought of that to mean there is some unannounced portion of the trade.

Reath contract is also unguaranteed until Aug1 so he can be cut if we need to add 2-3 more players to the 15 man roster. With his prior experience as Yang teammate and our need for a 3rd string center I assume we keep him though.

he is more likely tgo stay now than not for reasons you mentioned and I think he can play the 4 with either Cling or Yang

With a person who plays basketball
with us and the remix.

Most likely there will be 2 more roster spots filled. We need a SF and a PG that can shoot.

I'm guessing Hauser.

There are quite a few 'decent' FA (if they are on near-minimum contracts). Pick up one of these guys on the very cheap:
* Alec Burks
* Brogdon
* Dinwiddie
* Robinson
* Mo Wagner
* Ryan Rollins *** -> I like this target
* Jabari Walker
* Dominick Barlow
* David Roddy

Not necessarily. Deals get morphed/combined all the time. They are never 'finalized' until it's called into the league office.

Boston is trying to reduce their tax number. They're shopping Hauser. Portland can take him into the MLE for 'free' and role it into the Simons/Holiday trade.

Reath's guarantee date is 8/1, so he's not guaranteed to be on the roster.

Well yeah I can see the final deal changing - but to me that effectively will be a second "deal" that for camp purposes is combined into a single transaction.

The way I read Wiz comment as though there is a hidden part of the Ant-Holiday trade we don't know about that would include the Blazers receiving a 14th player.

I also believe your example of a Hauser>MLE deal would NOT be able to be part of the Ant-Holiday trade as it would have to be exclusively Hauser going into our MLE as a separate transaction. I don't believe the MLE can be used as cap space to include a lopsided parts of a trade over $14 million (although please correct me if I'm wrong)

Teams can arrange incoming/outgoing salaries as they see fit to comply with the CBA. How one team matches the pieces does not require other teams participating in the trade to match in the same manner.
In this scenario - Hauser makes $10M and can go directly into the MLE. It can be incorporated into the Simons trade or done separately. Logistically it doesn't matter.

my thinking is if it's a separate deal though, Portland has to send an asset....like a future top-55 protected 2nd. If it's rolled into the Jrue trade, that doesn't have to happen

And to piggy back on this, Portland or Boston could work a deal with any other team in the league and make it part of this deal, up until it is finally called into the league office. Didn’t that happen last off season? A deal ended up with 7 teams?

Kind of what happened with us on the Hart trade, looping in the Thybulle part as well, I believe

I hope our three point shooting is much improved. We certainly haven't brought on anyone thats decent. If Scoot, Grant and Deni shoot decent and Shae really improves with a gun slinger or two off the bench, could be a fun year.

Tisse and Tou were better from three last season than any of the guys you just mentioned on volume that makes it very likely replicable. I do expect Shae to be a lot more efficient in all areas of the game including shooting from distance.

Shae's shooting % last year was a one-off for him. I would bet a lot of money that he's nowhere near 31% ever again. His stroke is too pure and too effortless for him to ever repeat that number, even with increased attention and more attempts.
