How would you build a team around Devin Harris?

I've always thought of him as more of a complimentary player...I don't know if he's a player that you necessarily build around. He's a very good defensive PG who offensively needs work...realistically Marcus actually has better long term potential offensively. Either way I don't think management currently view either one of them as untouchable.

Portland has Kevin Durant
Memphis has Rudy Gay
Portland has Brandon Roy, LeMarcus Aldridge and Greg Oden

I think those are the type of players you build around...

Don't get me wrong Devin definately has allstar potential, but that comes more from the quality of PGs in the East rather than skill level...he's not a top 10 PG.

We already know that you're intractable and unimaginative. There's no need to be nasty about it. But to continue, he shoots the ball as well as kittles did. Regardless, the issue was how to build a team around him. I believe that you can build a team around ANYONE. I'm suggesting building that team with Harris pencilled in as the starting SG and backup PG. Surely, if you can envision building a team around him as starting PG, you can envision bulding a team around him as a starting SG. However, if you have the urge to insult me again, why don't you just cut to the chase and get to your agenda, since obviously this thread was meant to support your own, currently unstated opinion on the matter.

With exactly what we have right now but with the addition of a true shooter. We'd also need a post up big but they don't grow on trees. If you're talking about tearing the whole thing down, then the team will also need to trade either RJ or Carter, whoever can fetch the most in a trade on any given day.

watever contract we sign has to leave a legit amount of cap space to get LeBron, right now NJ is at $61 M by summer of 2010 LeBron's FA year begins, most likely he will be the highest paid player in NBA history, we're looking at a legit 1/3 of our teams cap that will be used on LeBron. What does that mean it means whoever you get prior can not allow this teams cap to go over 50 million, most likely the 40's , whoever it is.

A true shooter coming off the bench or in the starting lineup? If in the starting lineup, who goes out of it?

Most post up bigs require a high number of offensive touches per game to be effective. Are you thinking the team would be a half court oriented offense?

I agreed with the original post - basically, VC and RJ need to go. It isn't simply building a team around Harris at this point, but moreso building a TEAM. I'd trade them for younger, fast, defense-oriented swingmen.

Ideally, for RJ, you want Portland to be interested in him. Either Travis Outlaw or Martell Webster and Raef Lafrentz expiring contract for RJ and whatever contracts balances it out. Unfortunately, I think Portland has a long-term strategy that doesn't involve making bad decisions, so this will be tough. You'd have to hope a Western team that's weak at SF (like Utah, San Antonio) comes up short in the playoffs and comes after him. Perhaps Ime Uduka, Kurt Thomas (signed for one year ala Van Horn) and Tiago Splitter's draft rights for RJ?

With VC, you have to find the dumbest GMs in the league, and start talking to them to get the typical young players/picks/expiring contracts pu-pu platter. I think Chicago, after bombing this season, could be interested. But it's also worth placing phone calls to the Knicks, Milwaukee, etc.

Basically it is acquire as many assets as possible over the next year plus and then see what you have. With lottery picks in 2008 and 2009, the Nets could have completely different strengths and weaknesses on the roster by next summer.

At his salary, I wouldn't mind keeping Devin; however, in an asset building mode, I believe he can bring back more than he is worth or be used to increase the value of another player in a trade.
