There was another tweet that mentioned if Portland can get Parsons, he is a great recruiter for Howard. Also, Dwight is now meeting with 2 'unnamed' teams in addition to Boston and Atlanta tomorrow.

IF....that were to be the case, the moves to be made to create that cap space would be significant.

This moves my needle.

But how?

Figure out how much Dwight wants to play with Parsons, how much money he needs to get that done, then renounce guys until you fit them both in.

So lets discuss whats needed to make this happen....

Henderson/Alexander/Leanord/Montero all gone.

Probably takes renouncing hark and trading either aminu or davis?

It would take renouncing all 3 of the RFAs the Blazers made a QO offer to and also for Dwight and Parsons to not demand the full max.

So we can get Parsons and Dwight to agree to contracts, and then have a few days to renounce. trade guys, right?

Basically. You have to KNOW you are getting them and not have it be a DeAndre Jordon situation. Then as you sign them, you renounce whomever it would take to create cap space. Oddly, players like Montero and Alexander might be kept because their salary is not much higher than a roster charge while players like Meyers, Harkless, Crabbe, Kaman, Henderson and Roberts would be gone. You could possible bring back a couple of those guys on vet minimum contracts but for the most part it would be a big roster turnover.

Basically have to renounce Leonard and Harkless and somehow trade Davis or Aminu during the short period (Davis makes more sense). It makes us very light in terms of numbers.

Renouncing Crabbe won't do much as his cap hold is very small. Leonard and Harkless will have to be main ones. However if Howard and Parsons really want to play together there's also possibility of offering them less than max (tell Parsons: either take $24M per year but we cannot get Dwight or accept $20M and play with Dwight).

Dame/CJ/Parsons/Aminu/Howard is very, very strong.

Merge please! I made a Howard thread yesterday. There's no need for this!

Quick just went live with a story http://www.csnnw.com/portland-trail...handler-parsons-and-dwight-howard-free-agency

After courting Chandler Parsons with a near-max deal on Thursday evening, the Trail Blazers will turn to pursuing free agent center Dwight Howard, with their greatest attraction resting in the friendship of Parsons and Howard.

Howard and Parsons formed their bond in Houston during the 2013-2014 season, and as early as February of this year, Parsons indicated he wanted to reunite with Howard.

“Obviously, I have a really close relationship with Dwight, and one year wasn’t enough playing with him in Houston,’’ Parsons told USA Today in February. “”I was a big reason why he went there, so I’ll have to revisit that when the time is appropriate. The relationship I had with him, and making him feel comfortable, that was big.’’

Despite the Blazers’ reported offer to Parsons after a Thursday meeting in Los Angeles – The Vertical said it was four years, $94 million – the small forward will meet with Memphis today, where the Grizzlies are also expected to aggressively puruse.

Howard, meanwhile, has been reported to have meetings lined up with only Boston and Atlanta. But if the Blazers get Parsons in the fold, the picture might change.

“We still talk all the time,’’ Parsons told USA Today in February. “We’re friends, on and off the court. And I don’t just do it because he’s a free agent. It’s just a relationship we have built over the years. He still has a lot left in the tank … I’m a big fan of his game.’’

.
Or Noah I believe depending on actual numbers. I want to keep Aminu. Davis does become a bit redundant if we have both Dwight and Plums, though.

Hmm... Near max. First time I have heard someone say that. Hope Quick is right this time because I think that would give us better chance with Howard if Parsons took a little less than max.

I said it last night, It could be max, it could be near-max (just like woj stated)

Yup, it's why I highlighted it. Perhaps we won't need to shed as much salary if true.

Noah is on a very small salary though, isn't he? Davis makes more sense, probably for a pick. He'd get offers.

I don't know why Crabbe keeps getting thrown around as being renounced. It's a 2.7M cap hold (that's actually only 2.2M when you consider the roster spot hold) that will balloon into a 15M or so/yr contract. I get renouncing everyone else, I guess. But if you can't get a guy to take 1M less in order to keep a stud 6th/man 3&D guy, I mean, wow,

Ya, no need to renounce AC whatsoever. The benefits are minimal. I'd rather dump Noah or Plums for a pick. I'm sure the Sixers or someone is willing.
