How's everyone feel about Smokin' Joe Cronin now?

I think, for the most part, Cronin has done a good job after he was dealt some pretty shitty cards by Olshey. And I suspect for a lot of moves, there were Vulcans peering over his shoulder

I think his worst move was signing Payton, but he got out of that fine. That might end up even better if he uses the TPE

Honestly with the situation he was put in (Dame demands trade to Miami)he did a great job. He traded Dame to another team without making the franchise look bad and without upsetting Dame. He traded Dame,Nurk and pieces for Ayton and Jrue (several future pieces). He now could get a similar haul for Jrue from teams that wanted Dame with even more bidders than for Dame since Dame said he only wanted to go to Miami. I’m estatic about this trade can’t wait to see what haul we get for Jrue

And just think, if that Ping Pong ball hadn't popped our way, no telling where we'd be right now. Conversely, had we gotten the number one pick, there is also no telling where we would be right now.

Other than the draft, I think he's been bad. I don't like that we extended Dame. I didn't like Nurk's contract. I didn't especially like the Grant trade and I hate his new contract. I think paying Thybulle was stupid. I haven't seen any free agent additions this off-season that make any difference.

The trade today? TBD, but I am not a fan of Ayton at his salary, and I worry that his game is not one that works well in today's NBA and I wonder if he's a slacker/head case. Holiday is potentially going to bring us more value, but I don't find a single draft pick in six years and draft swaps very compelling a return at present.

The draft, especially where we picked, is the most important part of his job given where we are as a franchise so I'm overall not too bummed about things, but I still fear we're going to be mediocre with young players and overpaid veterans rather than making a real commitment to a rebuild. I guess we'll wait and see.

It'll enhance the trade. It's a B trade regardless.
In a perfect world, but considering the market, I would grade according to what was available. Was there a trade in your opinion that was better that he failed to obtain?

I didn't have the venom towards Dame that a lot of you did but I love the fact that him going to a team other than Miami seems to have mended fences between many of you and Dame. Dame should be a beloved Blazer forever.

That being said, Joe looks pretty fucking good today and as long as he does even a pretty good job when he moves Jrue, his stock will have shot way way up in my book.

Dame said he would only go to Miami and wow, he didn't go to Miami. Let's give Joe Cronin credit!!!

I heard Marc Spears interviewed today on local Bay Area sports talk. Marc has ins all over the league, but growing up in the Bay Area has ties locally including with Dame. He stated that Dame's agent (Aaron Goodwin) told DL 2 weeks ago that Miami wasn't going to happen and to open his team options or start the season as a PTB. Milwaukee was one of the spots Dame was open to, so Goodwin reached out to them and let them know.

I am very pleased by this trade and am excited to see what they'll get back for Jrue. The local sports talk guesses were that it would be substantial as Jrue's addition to the right team could move them from contender status to favorite. I'm hoping the value back is mostly in draft capitol as Scoot & SS are a few seasons away at the least. The local guys were throwing out CP3 (expiring contract) + Kuminga as a no brainer for the W's... I was thinking add an unprotected 2025 or 26 first and we're talking. Among others, I'd guess the Clippers would be very interested

Joe got a better deal than Miami was willing to offer. I'm stoked.

Now we can go take what Miami was offering if we want. And maybe teams will be more interested in taking Herro now that the big boys are off the table...

Ask after Holliday is traded but right now he did solid but he put himself in this hole when he crapped on Dame instead of being up front with him. I will say it again -- I hate that Dame is gone but all Joe had to do was shoot straight with Dame and tell him that they were not going to give up Scoot ( 3rd ) to get him help then only issue might be with the choice to move on from Dame. I was ok with idea of moving on from Dame the more I thought about it cause I was not sure there was a route where Dame gets a ring with the Blazers cause unless Giannis or Jokic or maybe Joel became available none of the options on the table screamed championship contender at best 3rd to 4 th seed or so.
