I am FED UP with Montreal...

Prior to the announcement for Brandon Prust’s suspension, Montreal coach Michel Therrien spoke at length about Brandon Prust and the situation he was in when he hit Derek Stepan.

Prust was suspended two games.

Therrien said, “You know what? His intention was not to hurt anyone. Like Kreider, his intention, even if he was going hard to the net and then laying on Carey Price, I’m sure his intention was not to hurt Carey Price. Brandon Prust, he tried to finish his check. His intention, honestly was not to hurt Stepan.”

He added, “You see, like I said, Brandon Prust’s intention was not to hurt Stepan. It was to try to finish his check, and sometimes it’s less than a second that a player’s got to react. It’s tough. You never want to see, like I said, you never want to see a player get hurt. You never want to see a player get hurt. But it was a good hit. It was a hockey hit, you know. Obviously, Stepan got hurt on it, but did it change the momentum of the game? I don’t know. I can’t say. I thought we started to play better in the second half of the game, not right after that hit. Even the first period we were a little bit on our heels. I know probably I won’t say it’s because of that hit that we started to play better.”

Look, I get it. People will say he has to say that. He has to stand up for his players. Blah blah blah...but that is BS.

Comparing a HOCKEY PLAY like Kreider's, one that was clean and not even reviewed by the NHL, to Prust's FLAT OUT LATE AND DIRTY HIT is a disgrace.

Kreider's play was no penalty and never should have been. Kreider's play was clean and the NHL never even thought for a second to review it.

MEANWHILE Prust's play should have been a major, was a hit from the blindside nearly 1 second after the puck was passed away by Stepan, TO THE HEAD, and the NHL was going to look at it ASAP after the game, and suspended Prust for 2 playoff games.

It is a FLAT OUT disgrace that Therrien would try and compare the two. Doing so to me further's the notion that the Habs were bitter and angry about Price, and were going to do what they could do to hurt a Ranger.

We need to beat these POS Habs in max 6. They are a joke.

Easy chuck we were saying the same things, sorry 31 but in going to bring it up, about hags suspension 2 years ago. He is sticking up for his player.

With that said it was a dirty hit, one because it was extremely late and 2 it was up high, not shoulder to shoulder it was in a upwards motion and hit the chin. Dangerous because it was a blind hit as well.

But it is just disgraceful to me that this is what Therrien says. As a coach you have a responsibility to not downplay dangerous plays like Prust's. And to compare a clean hit like Kreider's hit (and I am not just saying clean because it was I am saying clean because the league never even thought for a second to look at it) to Prust's late, cheap, dirty, jaw shot on Stepan is a flat out disgrace from a man in his position.

The league spoke. And what they said was Kreider's play was clean and legal. And Prust's play was late and cheap.

To say what he said is a disgrace by Therrien...flat out.

Actually, no I wasn't Al. I thought Hags should have been suspended. Intentional or not it happened. And again my issue is with a coach saying what he said. It is irresponsible for Therrien to say that.

I know the comeback will be he is defending his team...BS. Say nothing about it. To defend Prust does NOT have to include him comparing it to Kreider's CLEAN hit. Comparing the two tells me it was almost like they said oh yeah you knocked Price out, now watch this.

Amen struds. I fully expect a win in this series. I am just furious that a man who needs to be responsible and act as if hits like Prust's hit hurt the game, would say such things. THIS is why the league gets a bad rep.

Therrien can 10000000000000000% defend Prust, but he does NOT need to do so by comparing that hit to a CLEAN hit like Kreider's. That is the issue.

And again for clarification, I am not saying the Kreider hit was clean and the Prust hit was late and dirty...the NHL said that. Never even thought to look at the Kreider hit. Right away said we are looking at the hit and having a hearing with Prust. He was getting 1 game BEFORE the Stepan injury was announced.

That tells you all you need to know IMO.

Two sides to the story...I went on tan.ca and a good 75% of the comments was that Prust's hit was legal....I understand its homerism on both sides....I still think the hir deserved more.

But again here is the point Al. The NHL, not fans, not Hab fans, not Ranger fans, the NHL said Kreider clean not even worth looking at. Prust dirty and late, worth looking at and having a hearing. That is the NHL saying this, not some homer fans.

And BTW...if Therrien came out and said Prust's hit was clean. I think the suspension was a joke. We don't agree. Guess what Al...YES I would say Therrien is flat out wrong, BUT I would say he is defending his team which is his job.

So that is not my issue. My issue is Therrien comparing the Prust play to the Kreider play. That is irresponsible. He doesn't need to do that to defend Prust. He went too far IMO.

From the NHL explanation, “Thursday night in NY, Montreal forward Brandon Prust delivered a late and violent hit to Rangers forward Derek Stepan causing an injury. After chipping the puck up the boards and past Montreal forward Thomas Vanek, Stepan veers to his right to join the rush. “

“Approaching laterally from the middle of the ice Prust drives his left shoulder up into Stepan’s chest and jaw well after Stepan releases the puck and well after the time for where he is able to be checked. This is interference. What elevates this hit to merit supplemental discipline is it’s extreme lateness and the amount of head contact that results from the way it was delivered. After releasing the puck Stepan both changes direction and takes two strides to elude Vanek. Nearly a full second elapses between when he releases the puck and the moment of impact. That is well past the point for when a player should have to remain on guard for an opponent finishing a check.”

“In fact, Prust doesn’t even commit to this hit until after Stepan has released the puck. Prust is in complete control of the play since Stepan does not see him coming and can’t expect to be hit this late, the onus is on Prust to avoid contact completely.”

So Prust is FLAT OUT full of sh*t. Chest AND JAW. Lateness AND THE AMOUNT OF HEAD CONTACT.

So Prust is full of it. It wasn't just because it was late as he claims. It was about JAW AND HEAD CONTACT as well, and it says so right in the NHL release.

Look, there is no defending it. Is it the worst hit, or even close to the worst hit, I have ever seen...NO, but it was late, cheap, dirty, and caught his head/jaw as well...period. And I do believe there was intent there after the Price play. Not that Prust said I want to hurt a Ranger, but he had zero issue trying to make a statement, rules be damned.

For Prust and Terrien to take this stance is comical. And for Therrien to compare this AT ALL to the Price play is a disgrace, and if the NHL had ANY balls he would be fined. That kind of stuff is why the NHL gets a bad rep.

The NHL deems a hit late around .6 seconds, and I’m at .8 seconds, so you know, that’s on me. It’s late, but for me my focus was on trying to make a good, clean body check and not leave my feet, my elbows tucked, and everything about the actual contact is clean, it’s just late.

Everyone is going to be biased when it comes to their team. I would expect nothing different so that doesn't bother me so much. When it comes to Montreal though they have bothered a lot of their league with their bullshit. Not that they're saints but now you understand why the Bruins and their fans can't stand them. Like I said previously also Montreal acts like it's them and the rest of the NHL. They walk around with their noses up in the air as if the sport would no longer exist without them. Perhaps that was true decades ago but that's no where near the case today.

I agree Mess. Montreal is not near the top of the list in terms of NHL franchises these days. Newsflash...while hockey is Canada's game, it is driven by US franchises for sure. That is why we have 7 Canadian teams left. The league cannot exist based on Canadian teams only, or mainly.

When was the last time a Canadian team won the cup?

Yet here are the Habs acting as if they are gods gift. It is a joke. And their "act" around the Price injury, the way they responded to that, Prust's BS, Therrien's comments comparing a legal hit to an illegal hit, and now doubting that Stepan is even hurt is a disgrace IMO. It started early when Therrien went from clean hit what can you do last Saturday. To clean but he didn't make an effort to avoid Price last Sunday. To clearly it was reckless and anyone can see that last Monday (anyone except him on Saturday and Sunday I guess).

Those comments right there tell us ALL everything we need to know about Therrien and the Habs. We need to beat these POS Canadiens. Flat out joke what they have turned this into.
