and if I did I wouldn't want to eat those peas when I took the band-aid off.

I just thought I'd take a moment and share that with everyone.

I'm pretty sure there was an "and" in his speech. but I'm glad you don't eat band-aids!

"So we might as well do it now; pull off the Band-Aid and eat our peas.”

Ah, yes. President Obama, the Nation's mother. Let me know when he demonstrates even a modicum of fiscal constraint and I'll bother to listen to him about sacrifice. Until then, he's nothing more than Marie Antoinette.

I say let August 2nd go by and let Obama prioritize spending. I know my first money goes to pay my mortgage and not to pay for my ruby encrusted clown nose collection.

BTW, our President knows peas aren't particularly nutritious, right? I hope Michelle gives him a good talking to.

He really said we have to eat our peas? I did catch the part where some reporter told Obama that 70% of citizens polled were against a debt ceilings hike; Obama's answer was basically that the public are a bunch of idiots who are too busy to be informed, and that "paid professional politicians" like him know what's best for us underlings.

Yes, he really said that.

Pea Council backs Obama's remark

President Obama likened debt reduction to eating your peas -- and the USA Dry Pea & Lentil Council couldn't be happier.

"We take President Obama's comment on the need to 'eat our peas' as a reference to the first lady's push to get all Americans to eat a more healthy diet as part of the Let's Move campaign," said Pete Klaiber, the council's director of marketing, reports the Los Angeles Times.

During today's White House news conference, Obama said he would reject any kind of a temporary deal to raise the nation's debt ceiling while holding off action to reduce the federal debt in the year ahead.

"If we think it's hard now, imagine how these guys are going to be thinking six months from now in the middle of election season when they're all up," Obama said. "It's not going to get easier; it's gonna to get harder. "

"So we might as well do it now, pull off the Band-Aid," Obama said. "Eat our peas."

Klaiber of the Pea Council said, "We know that if tasty and nutritious meals featuring peas are served more frequently in the White House and in the cafeterias of both houses of Congress, it will contribute to a balanced diet, if not a balanced budget."

He added, "Eating more lentils couldn't hurt, either."

Seems as if he's won another Peas Prize.

Oh, well it's nice to see you'd like to have him make the financial decisions :devilwink:

It's the separation of powers. Congress gets to decide how large his non-directed checkbook is and the Executive gets to decide how that non-directed money is allocated.

I'd say trying to end those gluttonous tax breaks for the uber-wealthy showed considerable fiscal constraint, while the frivolous money-throwing right-wingers supported making the yearly gift to their false gods permanent.

i think lentils are kinda yucky, although i do love a nice ripe pea
