I have lived in this area for a good 10 years now in a row, even more when I was a kid. I am starting to see more and more panhandlers and they are getting closer and closer to stores and shopping centers, further away from the freeways.

I HATE PANHANDLERS.

So, after I was a little fired up from the OT threads with PapaG, I chose to tell this person how I felt. I parked my car, got out and this is close to how it went.

Me - Does this look like the ghetto to you?

PH (panhandler) - (begins to smile like im giving them money, then processes what I said) No, I am from here.

Me - Does this look like the East Side of Portland to you?

PH - Huh?

Me - Because I don't like seeing you fucking panhandlers in my neighborhood. Why don't you go to the east side and do that? Get the fuck out of here!!!

PH - I am from here!!! I already asked the Police and they said I could panhandle here!

Me - I don't give a fuck!!! Get the fuck out of here! You fucking panhandlers are making our beautiful city look like shit!!! Go get a job!!!

PH - My mom went to Stanford mother fucker!!! I used to work for Intel! I used to make more money then you!!! You are a pile of shit!!!

Me - Who fucking cares if your Mom went to Stanford? Thats her, not you! Look at you, living out of your car and panhandling where you grew up! Are you proud of yourself?

PH - Go vote for Bush you mother fucker, go vote for Bush.

Was that wrong? I don't think so. I think I have ALL the right in the world to defend my town, to defend my turf and to express to the low lives that are making my town look like shit. If someone was walking their dog and they shit on your lawn, wouldn't you do something about it?

See, this is why I like this forum (aka our little Blazer crew, wherever we end up) so much. There are SO many different personalities and points of view. I am able to post my sometimes VERY strong opinions and hear SO many different perspectives. I find that I am usually wrong, or I find a fantastic way to look at things, that I would not have otherwise.

I'm pretty confident most of the freeway panhandlers are on the west side because there are a lot more onramp stoplights over there. That's where the traffic backs up after work getting on the freeway.

I'm very liberal in my social views but I never give money to pan handlers because most of the time they look pretty obviously in search of drug money. Also, I don't really see it as a good idea to encourage them. The only time I've ever confronted someone is when they start back talking if I won't give them money...otherwise they seem like a regular part of the landscape.

PS - Beaverton sucks.

I've worked around the corner from Pioneer square for almost 8 years. Between panhandlers and the canvassers, I'm pretty sick of being asked for money. I generally ignore any rude comments from aggressive panhandlers, but sometimes they deserve a good FUCK YOU!
