My wife said she smelled a burning smell in our basement. Went downstairs and some wires on our hot water heater wearing literally smoking hot! The breaker that the hot water heater goes thru keeps shutting off. Scared to turn it back on. Does anybody know of anybody that can help! Don't want to get screwed over, just want it fixed right!
 
pm bintim he has only been asking for electrician work for a few months....

If this guy doesn't come thru, does anybody else know of anybody. It would be a chance to meet the "THE" in person. Your own personal meet and greet. I might even sign an S2 shirt for you or something.

When it comes to the safety of my home and family I also use a sports forum to get the best advice, lol.



Honestly, replacing a hot water heater is one of the simplest home improvement projects that you can do. Very easy if it's an electric heater. Do you use natural gas to heat? If you do call the gas company, they might have a deal to get you into a gas hot water heater for very little money.

Have you gone down and looked at what is smoking? The wiring inside the heater or just before the heater? Did the breaker trip? Was the breaker hot? Have you been noticing that the hot water runs out quicker then it has previously?

H20 heater is only a few moths old. Breaker has been tripping a lot lately and it was wiring outside the heater.

Heater in the basement right? is the basement finished? Can you see the wire going from the breaker box to the heater? do you know how to remove the breaker from your electrical box?

I would pop the breaker out, remove the wire and run new romex from the breaker box to the heater. It's pretty easy to do and the Home Depot Home Repair Book will have pictures and instructions. Who installed the new heater? You?
