His passes were always boring. Until the end. Then he made like one crosscourt pass per game.

He didn't try to score. The other team knew this. It was always 5 on 4. Like Rodman, this allowed him to focus on defense. Anyone can be better at defense if they surrender all offense.

After Kemp left, Payton developed a big ego. So McMillan expanded his a little. In his last couple of years under Westphal, he claimed a couple of times that previous coaches had held him back from shooting. Anyone who had watched him for years just laughed.
