I feel that anyone who truly follows this team knows the reality that faces them every game. It's like having a car that has 4 old tires on it with no spare. Sooner or later, you are just going to have to invest in new ones. I really believe that most Yankees fans would support a total rebuilding project if they had more confidence in the organization as a whole. Below lies the organization key people who fans have a lack of confidence with just cause. The names in RED I hold responsible for this mess on the field and no spare tire in the trunk.

The Yankees have movable parts. Teams would look at Gardner, Cano, Nova, Granderson, if he was healthy. The bargain basement give aways of Joba and possibly another reliever. There are no untouchables on this team going forward. Next year will be even worse, there is no answers in Free Agents, and the only other tool we have which is money, will be hampered by the 189 million goal for next year. Translation, we are closer to last in the East next year than we are to first.

Don't forget Hughes and Logan. Eh, you pretty much covered it with "no untouchables." While I think there's plenty of baseball left to salvage this season, I'm not sure this current cast gives you much moving forward.

You have to have difference makers that contending teams want. No contender is going to run around pumping their fist wishing October was here because they landed Gardner. Trading a guy like Nova makes no sense at all.

That being said I would not be against moving Gardner, he's a frustrating player at times IMO, good player for sure though so he would get interest, the only question is what can they reasonably expect in return and is it worth bothering?

I am one of those calling for the team to be sellers... mostly, I want them to trade Cano... he won't sign for what he is worth and will be yet another bad contract if the Yankees do agree to anything close to his demands... the window has passed for Hughes and Joba as their stock has fallen tremendously... They could try to do what Boston did last year and try to unload some of the bad contracts like CC, Tex, etc. if we could get them to waive their NTC... I don't see ANY of this happening... but I think Cano should be traded so you don't end up loosing him with nothing to show for it or conversely have yet another bad contract...

You wouldn't lose him for nothing. You would potentially get two first round picks if he signs elsewhere. I don't know what you would expect to get for him in a trade to a contender besides the same questions mark type player.

I do not think Cano would return the big package that fans think, and that's why they probably won't sell him, I agree it may be wise to but Cano is simply not worth it to another team IMO, where is the similar deal to point to in the past? it's not like a starting pitcher such as Lee that can have a big impact on a playoff run, Cano is not that kind of difference maker IMO, that's why he's staying put.

And as for the big trade Boston did, those were chips that still had value, Gonzalez was still on the field producing at a high level, Beckett had a great year the season before and Crawford was young and batting pretty well that year, you can't compare that move to what NY has to offer.
