Exclusive I would assume everyone in this forum wants Wesley Matthews resigned

Good value, yes but he wasn't underpaid.

His production every year of the contract was greater than an average MLE salaried player. Thus he was always underpaid. Sure there were other players in his draft class more underpaid than him, or late picks severely underpaid, but he was still underpaid his entire career.

Two seasons ago, we ran an inbounds alley oop play for Matthews to dunk about once a game. This past year, we only ran it for Dame and not as often.
Maybe once a year, but once a game???? C'mon.

I'd definitely want to have him back for a year and see what he can do. I wouldn't want to gamble on giving him the same contract he was slated to make though. Sign him to a 1 year 7 mil contract, and let him show what he's worth when the cap expands. If he really does come back strong as ever, he'd only want a 1 year deal anyway.

I hope he doesn't resign, I'd love to have him here as a Blazer. Re-Signing Wes is priority #2 imo.

Guys like Wes is what this team lacked last year. Guys that play with fire and emotion... That would dive headfirst into the 6th row to save a possession.

You gotta bring him back next year ideally for around $7M-$8M... If we end up having to give him more than that it could be the difference between being able to sign a good backup PG or being stuck with Blake next year.

I just hope Wes sees it that way! Unfortunately I think Wes will want a little more especially if he stays in Portland. Maybe around $10 mill.

Rarely do I agree with you...but I do on this. My guess is he would look at it as a slap in the face if we take a wait and see approach and only offer him a one year contract. All players want respect, but I think for Wes it is even more of an issue. The negotiations are going to be tricky. I hope to hell that Neil has good intel from the doctors.

Wes might be the heart & soul of THIS team but everyone is replaceable at some point. If Wes wants 10 Mill+. I wouldn't be mad if the Blazers sent him packing.

I'm not that worried about Wes injury. Wes was never this ultra athletic guy whos game relied on his athleticism. He barely jumps on his 3's and his D was more about Hustle and Grit then anything. If there is a type of player who could come back and it minimally impacts their game, Wes would be that type of player. Most everyone who had this injury and it killed their career was either older and at the end of their rope anyway or really relied on their athleticism.
I'd give Wes three options
2y deal 22m with a team option
2y deal for 16m with a player option
4y deal for 35m as a thank you type contract.

Thing is Wes doesn't rely on explosiveness. He's a shooter and post up guy, which means Wesleys offense won't suffer compared to someone like Westbrook if the same injury happened to him. Hell be fine defensively... I'll think he'll be even stronger upper body wise and lateral quickness doesn't really engage your Achilles..

That being said I think he'll sign to 2 years $16M with a player option. He performs like the same ol Wes then then he opts out and gets his payday when the cap ramps up. I think he'll give Portland the upper hand in negotiations, but I don't think he'll try and convince them to $10M+ for a short deal, especially if we give him a PO.

Possible that his injury won't have a great impact on his offense...there are crafty scorers like Andre Miller. But it'll affect his defense, you have to run and close out on people etc...

I think he'll be able to run in a straight line.... Hopefully...

As I said on another post, if anyone can come back from Achilles Injury, it is Iron Man. I think Rolo being resigned and Wes will go down as huge mistakes in the Blazer Scrapbook.
