Its truly amazing what this guy has done during his career.

Now only 29 shy of 3000 at the young age of 42 years old.

Great great bat control and discipline.
If there were one hitter off the top of my head who was similiar in technique, Rod Carew.
And....lol, to a much lesser degree, Matty Alou. This guy was a wizard....but of course not nearly as prolific.
I've seen him intentionally draw in 3bmen with obvious bunt attempts and then flick the ball over their heads for a hit. I've never forgotten it....very impressive bat control and coordination.
But yeah, Ichiro was absolutely fabulous when he was at his best.

Another thing about Ichiro, his personal style of often swinging and heading towards first base in one motion and being a very fast LH batter, he got alot of infield hits this way and plenty of dunkers and loopers....not a knock on him, just part of the whole package and his great bat control directing the ball towards open field.

On a side note - Boggs and Gwynn, imo, hit the ball harder more often than Ichiro.
It seemed as if Boggs' hits were "always" hard grounders or liners through the infield and of course those gappers for doubles. He wasn't fast and couldn't scratch out as many infield hits as a speedy guy would've.
Also Gwynn.
All were great non power hitters but I believe they could've hit a few more HRs if they chose to.

...Ichiro, also one of the very best defensive RFers I've ever seen.

Honestly I think he would have shattered Rose's record had he started in career in the U.S.

10 straight 200 hit seasons is a feat that will NEVER be accomplished again.

4251 combined Japan and US career.

So 5 hits from tying Rose.

with Gordon suspended Ichiro has been playing damn near every day, with a .333 batting avg, fkng A- incredible... a lifetime .993 fldg. pctg%...

Gotta' say, I've not seen a better RF'er in his prime, than Clemente, and Ichiro is right close 1/2 step behind Roberto....

Not only an amazing 10 yr 200 hit stretch, those 262 hits, I will never see be broken in my lifetime....

242 hits in his 1st US-MLB year, he blew everyone's mind....

you gotta' be effing kidding me. Is there a Teacher in the House...?

So, which one wants to tell me exactly what Ichiro is tying Rose for?

I'll accept an answer from any smartass who was anxious to insult me.

lol...if you can't read through the thread and determine for yourself what "record" of Rose's is being referenced, you're beyond help...this really shouldn't need explaining.

So we don't have to go through a never end thread of this that makes me want to bash my head against the wall.

No, it has nothing to do with the MLB hits record that Rose holds. It's just total hits in ones professional career. In this case it's counting Ichiro's hits both in Japan and the United States.

There for a moment, this seemed like a hard hat area, of a convo-
:beatinto:

my sentiments exactly, and thanks for the clarification Mess- for those who needed it...

I wonder just how long Ichiro will play, I've not read if he plans on playing as long as any team will have him, or- I've not read if he ever plans on retiring, or when...

guess he will continue driving on, until either there is no fuel in his gas tank, or desire to play, and/or the day will come when a team won't tender him an offer..... I just hope when he does to decide, its not during the off season, as Ichiro deserves a fare thee well tour/year...

Yet, being of Japanese descent, and thinking more in (old)-Eastern mind set, he's perhaps too humble to say he's done until the season is over...fanfare, not Ichiro's style...??? I don't know, jest spitballing...

...lol... I thought Tote had already made it quite clear.

...wait, what record ?

MLB is considering changing the stats rules to include professional career totals this way the can count negro league stats. As a bonus, Japan stats would also count and they could erase Rose name from the hits record.

...^^^are you serious?...if so, I'm not sure how I'd feel about it.

^^^I don't see how they can do it..I mean there are so many differences between MLB and Japanese ball...differences in the rules, differences in the balls, differences, in the stadiums and fences and infields, etc.

Ah shucks, you beat me to it.
Originally didn't want to contribute this over concern of this becoming a never end thread but your latest post begged for it.
I dont think you'll have a problem with these "revised" career stats after saying:
"So 5 hits from tying Rose".

Here ya go:

HR "leaders"
Sadaharu Oh 868
Barry Bonds 762
Hank Aaron 755
Babe Ruth 714
........
Sheffield 509
H. Matsui 507
E. Murray 504
......
McGriff/Gehrig 493
Tuffy Rodes 477
Stargell/ Musial 475
Honorable mention - Alex Cabrera 361 HRs (5 MLB), DiMaggio 361

Strikeout "leaders"
#12) Fergy Jenskins 3192, Hideo Nomo 3122, Bob Gibson 3117

oops, I forgot to put an asterisk next to Bonds'.

^^^Gotta give credit when its due. Good post.

amen Rick, like Ichiro himself, a class post for a change, less one hiccup- Ichiro is the kind of player, like many great HOF'rs past, who still play at a high level, and we all know He is a HOF'r in our midst....

like watching The Mick, Mays, Gibson, Koufax, Ford, Jeter, in years past, knowing they were sure shots for the HOF. So goes Ichiro, ...

just to think, the Japanese even named a Motorcyle after him. :biglaugh:Now if I can only find the other two Japanese Player's, Honda and Yamaha, Kawasaki too.....
Which came first, the Ichiro or Motorcycle, the egg or the hen....
