LOS ANGELES -- With one free-and-easy swing, Ichiro Suzuki slapped a single to left field in the eighth inning of the Marlins' 6-3 Win over the Dodgers on Tuesday night, and the 42-year-old moved another notch up MLB's all-time hits ladder.

Ichiro's hit was No. 2,943 of his Major League career, which matches Hall of Famer Frank Robinson for 33rd in history.

(and) - Ichiro also had 1,278 hits in nine seasons with the Orix Blue Wave in the Japan Pacific League before coming over to the States in 2001, giving him 4,221 hits in professional baseball. MLB all-time hits leader Pete Rose had 4,256.

Milestones keep coming for the Marlins' backup outfielder, who is getting limited playing time, but still making an impact.

Ichiro's single was off Louis Coleman, and it moved him 57 hits away from 3,000.

"You're happy for that," Marlins manager Don Mattingly said. "It's tough, because some days he's not going to play for stretches of time, with our guys swinging the bats good."

(and) - Ichiro is now 8-for-20 (.400) and he's collected two pinch-hits.

"Ichiro has been really good for us," Mattingly said. "He's played good defense when he's out there. He's swung the bat and gotten some big hits for us."

Ichiro also has 499 career stolen bases, one away from another milestone

...said it before and I'll say it again, as far as position players, considering all facets of the game, Ichiro is in the top 10 of best players I've ever seen play.

...^^^ no doubt, wish he'd of played every game in the USofA....

incredible talent, we're fortunate to of seen such rich History being made, only 2nd man to win ROY and MVP honors same year....

holds all time single season hit record, and the beat/list of hits go on...:blazerwookie:

I can only imagine what his numbers would have been had he started his career in the majors.

...^^^he'd likely be near or ahead of Rose/Cobb.... 4221 hits with a lifetime slash line of .325 .375 .438 .813 ...yowsa 1

10 straight 200 hit seasons to start his ML career just blows my mind.

Mine 3...

Is this the reason (blown mind from watching decades of History being made daily MLB).... we stutter when we think....?

Could be Rob or could just be that we're old :oldman:

The Wizard is starting his 13 game in CF w/Miami tonight.

Only 4 players (incl. Suzuki) have started a game in CF, at age 40 or older.

Mays
Yazstremski
S. Finley
Ichiro
