Adam Silver, the idea of a woman being hired as head coach in the NBA seems to be an inevitable step on a journey to a time when the gender of coaches is irrelevant. But for every Silver, there's someone like Mike Francesa, preaching that the day will never come.

Silver, though, is in a position to do something about the matter and, although his reign is in its infancy by David Stern standards, he intends to work to make the league's first woman head coach among his signature achievements.

Saying there "definitely will be" a woman coaching an NBA team, Silver told ESPN's Ohm Youngmisuk that "I think it is on me to sort of insure that it happens sooner rather than later."

Silver, in an interview to promote the league and Leanin.org's new campaign to raise gender-equality awareness, also hopes to add female game officials as the league increases its roster of refs by 25 percent over the next three seasons. Lauren Holtkamp is the only woman officiating games, following in the footsteps of Violet Palmer and Dee Kantner.

+Must be WNBA he thinks of. That can occur only if owners want to be trailblazers

I mean I have no problem with a woman being a head coach but it's been obvious since Adam silver took over that this league is just trying to appeal to the "progressive" movement and it's kind of lame to be honest

It just sounds like he wants it to happen so bad so the NBA can get brownie points for being "progressive". Is any woman really qualified for a coaching job at this moment? Getting kind of ridiculous. Quite honestly I also don't know how it would go over for a bunch of men being coached by a woman, told what to do, etc. might be a problem.

Pop's asst coach Becky Hammon is doing a good job, and is respected by the players.

2014: On August 5, 2014, Hammon was hired by the Spurs as an assistant coach, becoming the second female assistant coach in NBA history but the first full-time assistant coach.

2015: Hammon led the Spurs to the Las Vegas Summer League title on July 20, 2015, becoming the first female NBA head coach to win a summer league title.

Sounds like a great idea. I could easily see Becky Harmon being the first woman named head coach the NBA. Don't know if she'll be offered the Spurs job when Pops retires as there are a number of potential candidates. But I wish they would interview more candidates in general. It's not as bad as say, UEFA coaching positions. but new blood to come into the NBA coaching ranks.

Some real hot super woke takes bro keep em coming

There are so many male coaches that don't get the chance in the NBA because of the trend to hire either re-treads, or ex-players who have no prior coaching experience. Hard to believe many women will get the chance over them. I would not be surprised to see one getting the chance to make history, but shouldn't they hire a gay head coach first? Adam should not exclude them either if he wants to make a statement.

Luke Walton is rumored to be gay.

And where's all the Native American coaches at, Adam Silver is racist!

Can't we just jump ahead and get a trans-gendered coach? Why slow walk it?

In all seriousness, if there is a woman qualified to be a head coach in the NBA I hope she makes it. I just hate all the virtue signaling by Silver. "Look how open and diverse we are forcing our league to be."

Phil consumed enough peyote for an entire tribe which triggered states of "deep introspection and insight" that have been described as being of a metaphysical nature.

Well he has that Terence McKenna "vibe" about him. A Third Eye open, if you will.

This exactly. As opposed to letting anything come naturally, it seems forced.

If silver doesn't hire a transgender that goes by the name of they, I'm protesting

Maybe this post is the real reason you think nobody respects your opinions?
