...be number 2? They shoot the same percentage from the floor. Klay averaged 2 more points a game but Wes had the same in rebounds and assists. They're both good defenders. They both shoot the three well but Wes has a post game thay Klay doesn't.

Both Klay's and Wesley's fathers played for the Lakers. :MARIS61:

I hate Harden as much as the next guy, but this isn't a contest as to who the best SG in the NBA is currently.

Am i crazy, or has Klay gotten massively overrated lately? I know the sg position is really weak right now, but i can't believe there is a conversation to be had about him being the best one.

If KlayKlay is the best SG in the league, why is GSW even pretending to not offer him the max?

Kay is hardly the best SG in the league currently. That may change years down the road, with Klay learning how to post up. He definitely has the potential to be one of the best though.

this has been beaten to death but last year wessy wes had

a higher

PER
TS%
eFG%
TRB%
AST%
STL%
ORTG
lower TOV%
lower USG%
more win shares
and a higher ws/48

so yeah

I said it in another thread about this but if you look at their stats they pretty damn similar. I was surprised

Do numbers really tell you who the best and worst are?

Not neccessarily especially when it comes to Wes but they are a factor and I was just surprised at home similar they were. If you would ask me who is the one SG I would consider replacing Wes with it would be Klay but after looking at the numbers and knowing how important Wes is to this team I looked at differently.

Wes us not the 2nd scoring option on the team as Klay is. Wes is the deeper player but won't get the ink. Klay bumped his image up playing for team USA but he's overrated. Good player, not the best

I was about to post this! Exactly!!!! There are 2 20 point scorers on this team and he was still able to average 16 per game. That's really impressive, especially when he is called to guard the best perimeter player

I cannot think of one current sg that would be an absolute upgrade over Wes when considering the heart and toughness he brings to the Blazers. Sure, you can pick out players who are better in specific areas of the game, but that could be said about any athlete. If Matthews has another season like last year, or even better improves, I hope Neil and Paul will give him the payday he has earned.

Exactly! Wes is a warrior!

Really? He's a good scorer, but don't think he's that great. That's one side of the ball...and it's not like he's a great passer. Like Clyde was a master at running the fast break and hitting the open guy.

But I am glad he's no longer on the Thunder. The Thunder's GM and scouting have been on par with the Spurs, what a crazy amount of talent they acquired, Westbrook, Ibaka, Jackson, Harden.... Ibaka and Jackson were #24 picks.

Really? He's a good scorer, but don't think he's that great.

Name a better SG now. The position is not very deep.

Kobe? No. DWade? No. Klay/Lance/Wes/etc? No. Harden is running away with it.

Over-rated! Clap clap clapclapclap! Over-rated! Clap clap clapclapclap!

During the starters last week Tas Melas called Thompson the most over rated player in the NBA. Said he was a one dimensional scorer who can't do much other than shoot the ball well.

I agree with Tas Melas.

Flawed assumption ("If Klay Thompson is the best SG ") leads to flawed conclusion ("Wes is #2).

Wes getting 16 ppg on a team with two 20+ ppg scorers is as attributable to the attention paid to the stars as it is to his own abilities. Honestly, I think Klay would be as effective if not moreso in Wes' role, and I don't think Wes would be as effective as Klay has been as a #2 option.

That said, I seriously doubt Klay can provide intangibles anywhere near what warrior Wes brings our team. Klay is probably a better player, all things being equal, but I wouldn't trade Wes for him.

Wes should be #1. Anything less is a slap in the Blazers and all their fans faces

#norespect

Remember the first year Matthews came to Portland? I seem to remember him being a fine #2 option.

Sure, but not as well as Thompson has. He took about 4 shots per game fewer that year than Klay did this past year. And Miller was as much a second option on that squad as Wes was.

Well Lee is more of a second option than Klay. See how this works?

Lee is a garbage man. Their offense doesn't really run plays for him.

You know that claiming Lee is an equivalent option to Klay is hogwash. Why are you attempting to corrupt a legitimate discussion with nonsense?
