Who do you think would be the starter for the Ducks next season?

Personally, I like what I've seen from Jake Rodrigues a little bit better than Lockie. Who knows, maybe there's a recruit out there that would be the day one starter.

Honestly, I'm hoping MM doesn't go pro, but I sure wouldn't blame him. He's playing damn fine football this year.

They are talking like mariota and mannion could be high picks this year. Would be awesome to see that

I tend to agree with Rodriguez over Lockie though with a caveat. Jake has better tools (size, speed, big arm) but I like Jeff as the backup if MM were to go down. He's a very heady dink and dunk type who is probably better suited to filling in mid-game if MM were to go down. That said, I should go check out Mahalak one of these Friday nights as his HS is just a couple miles from my work.

It seems like Lockie has a better arm, but I don't know.... it's so hard to judge from our crummy 4th quarter play. Put MM with the guys that are playing in the 4th and I don't even know if he'd look that good.

Mediocre Man would look horrible. He'd be bitching the entire time that the refs aren't calling the game fair.

I have no idea who would win the starting job. That said, I doubt MM goes pro. I don't think he's ready.

If he somehow won the Heisman, I think he would. No reason to stick around and possibly get hurt.

I just have no idea. Both have strengths and will improve a lot of the next year. It's a great question that will probably be answered in the Spring Game. :)

You don't have an opinion on which is better at this point?

I'm usually drunk by the 4th. :) Hopefully, one really develops and comes full circle.

I would watch more if the team didn't go into, "run the clock out" mode. An entire quarter of running out the clock.

Watching ESPN this morning, Mel Kiper was suggesting depending on team needs he could go #1 overall over Clowney

True but I don't think his passing is there quite yet. Maybe another year. Also, it is my understanding that many top college players who hang around for that extra year or two get some sort of insurance policy in the event they get hurt.

Happens a lot with NBA prospects can't imagine it doesn't happen with football prospects. Norlens Noel had close to a 10 million policy that leaked out when he got injured.

It's all about money and draft position. If he were to win the Heisman, which is still a huge "if", I'd say he has a great shot of going #1 or #2 in the draft. Clowney hasn't been very impressive this year. Marcus is ballin', and I think he has a legit shot at being #1 even if he doesn't win the Heisman. He'd be crazy to stay in school. Just look at Matt Barkley as a good example of that mistake.

I sure hope Marcus comes back for his JR year and grooms Morgan Mahalak because our backups aren't very good D1 QB's.

I place all perceived blame for MM's backups not being up to some fan's high standards on Marcus's terrible grooming. He's a hooooOOrrible mentor

some writer at NBS Sports calls him the solid favorite for the Heisman though... http://collegefootballtalk.nbcsport...a-makes-heisman-statement-against-washington/

Maybe not the right thread for this, but...

If he goes pro, then what's his comp? Without having seen much of him, he seems like a Jake Locker type rather than Cam Newton or RG3--does he have the arm to make all the throws?

He reminds me a lot of Kaepernick. His arm isn't quite as strong, but they have a lot of similarities.

Think it would suck if he left the NFL after this season. But it's prob ineviitable. Chip Kelly and the Eagles, they need to be positioning themselves for him. Who would be better it for his offense?

he's got plenty of arm strength and has been much more accurate then Jake. For his career he's completing 66% of his throws, and has an unbelievable TD to INT ratio of 49 - 6 (sounds like a Duck halftime score lol). Here's highlights from last Saturday's game which he tore it up on the ground and through the air making it all look easy

Chip should find a way to get him to Philly to be the second coming of Randall Cunningham.

He would be amazing in Philly, but I don't see how the Eagles will be low enough to draft him. They'd have to make a huge trade to pull it off.

Let's also remember that this kid isn't even 20 yet!!! Knowing how humble he is, expecting him to go into the NFL and command men with huge egos seems a bit premature till he learns how to command a team vocally. I think he stays another year, grabs his degree, and becomes the vocal leader needed to make a huge splash in the NFL!

I would like to see one more year of Mariota. I don't want to be greedy, and I think the kid has earned a trip to the NFL, but I think one more year would be awesome.

I would love one more year out of Mariota but IMO it isn't going to happen. I think he is going to be probably if we keep winning and he keeps playing well a top 3 pick. You just can't pass up that kind of money.

Yup. I'd hate to see Mariota pull a Matt Barkley.

Barkley was exposed as a short nervous pocket passer. Marcus is prototypical physically and much more then just a pocket passer. The world is his oyster and he'll be choosing between two great options. Instantly set for life or get a multi-million dollar Lloyds of London injury insurance policy continue living the life, get a degree and be the next Payton Manning/Tim Duncan. I won't blame him either way

Regardless, Barkley was a sure thing high first round pick, he stayed in school and ended up completely destroying his draft stock. I just wouldn't want to see the same thing happen to MM.

was he really? I wouldn't have guessed being a short unathletic pocket passer was the rage with NFL GMs these days. Those facts would have been revealed by the combine regardless of when he declared. Baring injury, I'm pretty sure the combine will reveal facts that only drives the interest in Mariota up.

I can recall chatter about Barkley's draft prospects not living up to the LA hype prior to him deciding to come back and lose in the Sun Bowl to Georgia Tech.
