If only we could go back in time...

Anyone else wish we could go back to the negotiation beginning point in July and send Frank on a trip to Stro's house instead of Reef's?

With Stro we could have had so many options. We could have played him at the 4 or 5, he could have run the break, and finish alleys, and he would have provided us with a shot-blocking presence. Jason Kidd's unmatched leadership could have turned this kid around, and we could have had probably the fastest, deadliest and most exciting lineups in the league. Our fast-break could have rivalled that of the Kenyon era. Not to mention he would have provided us with some much needed post defence.

But no, instead we went for SAR, which I can honestly say is a decision I somewhat questioned even before the physical, and we all know how that turned out. So instead we have Marc Jackson, and we are left wo wonder what could have been if we had gone for Swift...

I for one will be thoroughly pissed right off if SAR only ends up missing anything less than 10 games, or Donyell lights it up, or if Swift turns the corner and finally shows off his ability. So Marc Jackson and Jeff McInnis damn well better contribute this year, or Thorn and Stefanski will be right down there with the likes of Rob Babcock as far as decision making goes IMO.

I agree that Swift would have been the better choice. Of course he'd be a much better defensive presence than SAR (helping us get stops and leading to fastbreaks), but he would've also been an integral part of our offense, probably even moreso effective than SAR because of Kidd's abilities in the fastbreak.

It's a bit harsh to put Thorn down into that kind of category, even if his decisions were suspect this off-season. He's done too many good things in his career to call him a bad decision maker. Kidd, Jefferson, and Carter probably wouldn't be here without him.

I got a better topic: what if the Nets could go back in time and re-sign Kenyon Martin? Cuz let's face it, since K-Mart left you guys have been searching for answers in your front court.

Well, I dont think it matters how many games Shareef plays this year because the Nets front office wasnt really concerned with the immedidiate but more for the long term.

I also wanted Swift but there were some legitimate concerns on whether he is ready to handle such a major role....Houston has more at the 4 spot with Howard, so they can take more of a gamble on Swift's potential rather then him being proven.

Anyway, I have faith that Jackson and McInnis will be very good contributors. If I could rewind back this offseason, it would be very short term and not sign Scott Padgett.

I would not rewind this offseason, but if I had to, I would rewind to the day before SAR failed his physical, and lets him pass it. When you come the think of it, SAR was not about to recieve a 100M contract. We were about to get an expensive player at a real bargain price. In a way Rod and Stephanski, got a bit too greedy.

Let me just say that Scott Padgett is a good player to have...if it is his day. I remember days in which he was the guy that bailed Tmac and Yao out when we needed a big shot, but most nights he is off his three pointer. He can grab a rebound thought but not as much as you would expect from a power forward.

Both McInnis and Jackson are a gamble with regards to their attitude and how they will contribute, so if we can take a gamble on them, why not for two more talented players. Jackson is amking just as much as Swift and Sar would have.

But if we had kept KMart, we wouldn't have VC, Mark Jackson (via the trade exception) (we could have had SAR), or an additional first rounder. Personally, I like these things better than KMart

What a silly topic. If WE could go back in time, we never would have signed Jim McIllvaine, and Shawn Kemp would be retiring about now as the sonics all-time leading scorer and rebounder with a couple rings. Can't go back kids.

Marc Jackson has 1 year left on his deal after the upcoming season...and McInnis was signed to a 1 year deal with a player option for a 2nd. A option that he will likely not use if he isnt happy with his role on the team...so these arent the 4+ years type of deal we were offering Rahim or may have offered Swift. These are very short term, low risk contracts with Jackson and McInnis.

It was metaphorically speaking. I think everyone else understood the question to be "should we have pursued Swift instead of SAR". You're the only one who had to be a smart-@$$ about it.

With Kidd and Carter ageing, we don't have a lot of time to experiment. We need to take risks if we want a championship in the near future

I did have thoughts about SAR and that their might be a problem. What can i say, the Nets spent their time with only SAR. I never really though that Stro would be better but i felt the Nets should of looked at Stro and Marshall before officially tryin to sign SAR. Now that they didn't sign SAR they still have a problem at PF and now they have an enemy in SAR. In conclusion if i could go back i would suggest looking at other PF but it's too late for that.
