If the Dunk Contest is rigged is there any reason to believe the NBA isn't rigged?

This years Dunk Contest was obviously setup before with Howard and Robinson scripted into the finals. As an NBA fan this is one of the most disappointing memories of the sport. So if David Stern will rig the Dunk Contest to improve his image of the NBA is there anything he wouldn't rig to ensure the NBA generated maximum profits? Is David Stern's NBA rigged? Stern has proven over and over again what kind of a person he is and I think this is a black eye on the sport.

What if I've thought the NBA was rigged for a while now? Is that one of the options?

No, no, I already take into account that all fans from the northwest think the NBA is rigged. ;) :D

i thought it was a good contest, IMO. Rudy had an early exit, but he was boring, didn't use his own teammate, and took forever to do his first dunk.

How could you watch the Kings and Lakers in the WCF and NOT think it's rigged?

I don't think that it follows that merely because each of them had props that had been prepared that the contest was rigged.

Rudy and Smith might have had costumes, etc., prepared as well.

It's like at the end of PTI... the winner is READY to read his final word, but it doesn't mean that the entire contest was rigged. Each participant is ready just in case.

With that being said? The contest jumped the shark, once and for all (as far as I'm concerned) when Howard got to bring out his own basket.

Why not a trampoline? Or a hot air balloon? Why not rappel down from the rafters?

Fucking stupid.

Easily one of the worst All-Star Saturdays ever. Boring as hell.

And Kenny Smith was more irritating than usual.

I don't believe the game itself is rigged, but I DO think that sometimes certain officials will try to affect the outcome of the game. Especially in certain playoff games. One good example that comes to mind is the Lakers-Celtics game 2 last year. Now I don't like the Lakers any more than everyone else in here, but the free throw discrepancy in that game was ridiculous. Now this was a HUGE game and everyone knows that every Finals game gets the league a bundle of cash (especially since its Boston and LA), so I gotta think there was some incentive to extend the series and help out the underdogs a bit. Cause lets face it, if LA won game 2, then there's a good chance that the series could've been over in just 5 games.

To me, there's just too many coincidences, and I'll always look at that game as having very, very suspect officiating.

Well his 2 minutes expired. First time I've ever seen that since the Chris Andersen fiasco. So he wasn't exactly quick.

Only in your mind buddy!

"Rudy had an early exit, but he was boring, didn't use his own teammate, and took forever to do his first dunk."

in all fairness, 3 of the 4 happened

nate took a LOT more than 2 minutes when there was no time limit 2 years ago.

Re: If the Dunk Contest is rigged is there any reason to believe the NBA isn't rigged

Yup. Everybody knew it was against the rules. If you let players break the rules, it's rigged.

it wasnt a trampoline, it was a dude. plus who cares...do you actually think nate needs help to do the dunk he did? i think your being sore.

Re: If the Dunk Contest is rigged is there any reason to believe the NBA isn't rigged

I bet the D-League dunk contest was better. It had James White and Sonny Weems.

That shouldn't make a difference when they score his dunk that he ended up making. I agree it probably did affect the score but I thought he also got screwed on his first dunk. I'm not saying Rudy should have won but having the two lowest scores when both his dunks were better then most of all other dunks is a terrible thing for the NBA.

Yes it should.

The NBA's actually too lenient with this. Each guy should get 4 attempts, tops, on any given dunk. If they aren't skilled enough to pull it off in that time frame, well, too bad.

I think there should be more then 4 guys. Especially next year since Nate and "apparently" LeBron will be in it.

actually all those things did happen, man.

Actually Rudy made his first dunk on the first attempt, try again.

Re: If the Dunk Contest is rigged is there any reason to believe the NBA isn't rigged

I don't even remember his first dunk, so it must have been pretty fantastic.
