TIGARD, Ore. -- What should have been a chance for Oregon to showcase its backyard has turned into anything but.

Just 103 miles away, it didn't take long for prospects at The Opening to start discussing the Ducks' pending NCAA investigation for allegedly paying scouting services with close ties to prospects.

Some 2012 recruits have dropped the Ducks among their favorite schools. Some will wait and see. All said the news affected him.

Linebacker Brett Bafaro from Hillsboro (Ore.) Liberty said Oregon was his clear leader and he was ready to make a summer announcement. Now, that's on hold as other schools garner more interest.

"I don't know what's going on with them right now," the three-star prospect said. "So I'm just waiting for that to kind of clear up and see what happens. They were my No. 1 school until all this happened."

Meh. We don't have that many scholarships for next year if I remember correctly. Gonna need top class players.

you left the part out of the article it seems where 5* O-Lineman Joshua Garnett said he would wait and see, cause if he cut them out when it turns out to be nothing, that would be a mistake.

who is reaching now?

I follow this stuff every year and I can honestly say that in football recruiting it's a great time to be a Duck. They have never approached the level of interest from cream of the crop prospects they are enjoying today including high interest from a number of top LBs who are lining up their official visits for the fall... this on the heals of signing at least 5 last year (could be more depending on where super studs French and Lyerla end up). Here are just a few of those who have stated their intention of visiting Eugene for a game day this fall

Four-star offensive lineman Zach Banner said he keeps up with the steady stream of news about the investigation but is trying not to draw any conclusions.

"If something happens, then something happens and we can talk about that at the moment. It's nothing that's affecting my recruiting," the Lakewood (Wash.) Lakes standout said. "I'm not going to shut them out because if they don't end up getting anything, then that would be a horrible situation" to have not considered them thoroughly.

the bold sure seems to contradict the title of this thread ;)

"I know a lot of people say things about schools that might not necessarily be true or say some things they overexaggerate,

case in point

Whatever... It's obvious that this is impacting their recruiting. Will they still pull in a good class? Probably. But they're definitely going to lose a couple. BTW Stomp, the Beavs are enjoying their best recruiting season ever. Just thought I'd share that with you...

their class is expected to be between 20-25... averaged sized

just my guess, but I don't expect either of the Washington tackles to end up Ducks. Banner is supposed to be enamored with leaving the rain and is supposed to have told those around him he's USC bound & Garnett wants to be a doctor. Though UO has a strong science department, they don't have a medical school. Of course an undergrad can take the required courses and then the MCATs and enroll elsewhere, but I can't recall a Duck football player who was a pre-med major...

love to be wrong on him though as he's a big time stud

not really. It's obvious that you hope it does. At the end of the day I think it's going to be a tremendous class as they're already ahead of last year's best ever.

I knew that already, good for them. But of course this isn't the Beaver forum.

could it also be "Hey the Ducks are pulling in higher level talent now, and it will be much harder for me to get on the field" so they lose some there too?

Is anyone arguing for or against that but you? :dunno:

I also agree, (unfortunately) just wanted to show him what he is leaving out of the article to sway it in his arguments direction.

LOL!

And I like how the Beavers get randomly mentioned like they are relevant or something... :) <3

when it comes down to it, there is no such thing as bad publicity, the simple fact that oregon is being talked about (recklessly i might add) in the same breath as usc and ohio state puts them on the map even more so to the average recruit i would say

Oregon makes the headlines for Willie Lyles at #4.
Lyles is a scouting expert who was said to provide outdated recruiting information to the University of Oregon for $25,000. He was also quoted telling Texas A&M to “beat” an $80,000 offer for LSU All-American Patrick Peterson.

Lyles was said to have close relationships to players who have attended both Oregon and LSU.

NCAA investigations are still ongoing over whether or not Lyles had a hand in sending certain players to the schools that they play for. Oregon and LSU have consistently been ranked near the top of the polls for the last couple years, but could be rocked with a severe punishment if the allegations are found to be true.

PORTLAND, Ore. -- A University of Oregon assistant football coach violated NCAA recruiting rules when he tried to lure a junior college transfer to the school in January 2003, resulting in a two-year probation for the school.

The Pacific-10 Conference school remains eligible for postseason play and does not lose any scholarships, NCAA spokeswoman Kay Hawes said Wednesday.

Heres the info on that junior transfer.
The Ducks served two years’ probation from May 2004-May 2006 after assistant coach Gary Campbell was found to have engaged in improper conduct during the winter 2003 recruitment of running back J.J. Arrington, who eventually played at California. The breach was deemed a "major" violation by the NCAA.

I would rather have a team thats struggling this season, teased about sheep jokes, than constantly be known by the public or the NCAA as the University of Oregon as the laughing stock on ongoing recruiting violations.

Targus, your insults are pathetic towards the Oregon State Football program and its staff because they are having a rough year. Until your team can beat a SEC school (LSU, Auburn), perhaps your team needs better recruitment too, oh wait your team (as a fan) tries to buy recruits!

Targus hasn't posted in this thread so I'm not sure why you're teeing off on him.

We need to put an end to this shit. Duck fans should do an Occupy Autzen protest today and demand a victory!

Remember when the Ducks destroyed the lab of those scientists who had the cure for cancer? And that other time they caught the Ducks cheerleaders clubbing the baby seals so they could have baby seal skin pom-poms? And of course back in 1953 when one of the Duck football players was fishing without a fishing license???

Coming onto a Duck forum to lay out drivel like this truly says more about the poster then the target. Add on the same small minded sig for years and someone seems to be running for the title of most bitter Beav of all. I'll fondly recall this sort of bluster when the NCAA feather duster comes down on the Ducks regarding the Lyles situation.

here's some sig material from Ted Miller's ESPN blog...

Oregon has scored 30 or more points in each of its past 25 home games. That is the longest streak in the AP Poll era (since 1936) and one of two active streaks longer than 20 games (TCU, 24 straight). No other team in the AP Poll era has had a streak of at least 20 such games.

:ghoti: it's a great day to be a Duck!

I'm teeing off on him because he made a pointless stupid thread in the oregon state section of the forums about how the Beavers should recruit that HS female football player because the beavers need help.

That's kind of fucked up that he posted that but I just lol'd when I read your post. I'm off to the Beaver forum to witness the carnage.
