Politically, who cares. The danger with the first impeachment was firing up Republicans/Trump fans ahead of a major election. This isn't going to sustain as get-out-the-vote fuel for 2 or 4 years from now. The risk isn't there this time. So they might as well--add as much stain as possible to this ridiculous Presidency of Trump's.
 
Along with Trump's impeachment and inability to run for public office ever again I sincerely hope they've added tarring and feathering in the fine print tomorrow!

Very true.

Its gonna be so much fun to watch the videos of him saying "greatest president ever" and then juxtapose that with all the horrible shit he did.
 
It doesn’t matter if this further “fans the flames” or whatever. You HAVE to meet force with force or you will lose. You have to lay down the law and make an example out of as many people as possible, hold people accountable or you just embolden them. If they think what they are doing is “working”, it will get so much worse it will be catastrophic. If they know that it’s not a free for all, they might (might) think twice. Showing weakness is not a good idea right now for the left.

This whole ploy for unity and "just moving past it" is an obvious maneuver to try to skate past having to take responsibity.

It could be said that the 2nd biggest tragedy of all this after the loss of life would be if there is no accountability.

Trump's impeachment defense team leaves less than two weeks before trial

Former President Donald Trump's five impeachment defense attorneys have left a little more than a week before his trial is set to begin, according to people familiar with the case, amid a disagreement over his legal strategy.

A person familiar with the departures told CNN that Trump wanted the attorneys to argue there was mass election fraud and that the election was stolen from him rather than focus on the legality of convicting a president after he's left office. Trump was not receptive to the discussions about how they should proceed in that regard.
