HEAD COACH TERRY STOTTS
“Well it was a terrific bounce back game for us. After a slow start, I thought it was a very complete game. Indiana is an excellent team, probably one of the hottest teams other than the Golden State Warriors at the time. They create a lot of problems with their three point shooting and their spacing. Even though giving up 111, I still thought we did a decent job defensively and offensively, we really got it going. We got rolling shooting threes, there was a lot of confidence and I liked the ball movement. I think the rhtthm of the pass leads to confidence for the shooter, so it was a good win to get before we go on the road.”
On George having season low:
“I thought Chief (Al-Farouq Aminu) in particular did a very good job of making him work. Great players, that’s all you can do – is make them work. I thought Chief’s length was effective, he manages to contest a lot of shots. Team defense, as far as guarding in pick and rolls so he wasn’t coming off clean. I can’t speak to why he was 0 for 9 from threes, I don’t know how many of them were good or how many were contested, maybe a little luck played into that as well. I thought Chief in particular did a very good job.”
On Crabbe scoring 18:
“He had it rolling in the second half, shooting it with confidence, moving well without the ball, very little hesitation. Guys were passing it to him in rhythm. It’s a team thing when a guy like Allen who doesn’t necessarily create a shot off the dribble and relies on screens and running and passing and all that to get his shot, I thought we executed some good things and he got some good looks.”
MEYERS LEONARD
On defense against Pacers spread look:
“I thought we did an okay job. I thought we did good in transition finding shooters, locating them, trying to run them off the line as best we can – guys like Paul George, CJ Miles starting at the four – that’s a nightmare matchup. Obviously he got his threes, got some good looks but I thought we were close on some of them. But even for me, I needed to be closer a couple times to try to run him off the line and try to make him play in the midrange with help defense behind me. But as a whole, I thought we played well and we came out and got a win.”
Did you feel like you handled it better in the second half?
“I would say so. We obviously made a run there end of the first quarter, sustained it through the second quarter and came out in the second half and had much better energy, better focus on defense. CJ Miles is a guy with a quick trigger, he gets them up. Paul George in transition making plays, other guys contributing. Overall, I thought we did a really solid job, especially against a guy like Paul George who’s averaging 27, probably like 36 over the last couple weeks or something, so for him to have 11 was a credit to our guards and everyone else helping.”
ALLEN CRABBE
“Being in the game, having plays called for you – coach has me out there in crunch time finish games, so just seeing that trust in the coaches, it really makes me want to go out there and execute and continue to perform so I can continue to stay out there.””
On big third quarter
“We just had to make some adjustments at halftime. We said in the beginning that they threw the first punch and we weren’t the ones who hit first and we were reacting to them and how they came out and they were more physical, but the second half we turned it up. We got a lot of stops defensively and I feel like those stops led to us getting out offensively and executing well on the offensive side.”
On being out there in late game situations and building confidence:
“Like I said, it’s just coaches showing that they trust me to go out there and make plays. Coach was calling a couple plays for me down the stretch and me making shots, I feel like that builds a trust even more. So I just feel like being out there more and more allows me to get more and more confident
