Oranges and apples. Tell me how many guys Hank Aaron had to face that threw >95 mph, and were fresh from the pen? We can do this all day. Stats and other comps have temporal and contextual limits. And in today's society people interject "feelings" as a means to make statistical outcomes more favorable to their predetermined outcome.

And I'm not just saying, this is a point in fact.

Gossage threw smoke but some of his smoke ended up in the bleachers at some very critical times. Pine tar bomb, bomb in '80 playoffs both by Brett. Grand salami to Lowenstein in '83 that reversed the Yankees pennant run. And of course the bomb to Gibby in the '84 World Series, wanted the Padres to take that one. My favorite before Mo was Sparky Lyle unfortunately he had that riff with Steinbrenner and left. The amazing thing about Mo was batters knew what was coming and still couldn't hit it. I want to see him return and teach Betances that cutter.

Didn't think you were implying that. Was only commenting on the propensity for people to misuse statistics when making comparisons. If you wanted to make a comparison of the two, you'd have to look at Gossage from the 3/4 out save perspective and extrapolate. Otherwise you are using 2 players to contrast the differences in how RP/closers were used 20 years earlier. Your "just saying" actually did not say what you were attempting to compare, or what aspect you found "interesting".

Just pointing out that today's save stat has been cheapened a bit by the fact that guys a getting 1 & 2 out saves. Which is something that was VERY rare many years ago.

What made Rivera so amazing is that he only had one pitch so batters knew what was coming & they STILL couldn't hit him.

Now Gossage, ya' want to compare to Rollie Fingers who pitched the majority of his Saves, via the 7th-9th, or 8th and 9th, without fail, in most of His Save Games.
