Way to lose your leverage, President Obama.

Iran sternly dismissed decades of U.S. policies targeting Tehran and declared Friday that the new American administration had to admit past wrongs before it could hope for reconciliation.

The comments by Iranian parliamentary speaker Ali Larijani at an international security conference in Munich appeared to be the most detailed outline yet of Tehran's expectations from President Barack Obama's administration.

"The old carrot and stick policy must be discarded," he said, alluding to Western threats and offers of rewards to coax Iran to give up nuclear activities the West views as threatening. "This is a golden opportunity for the United States." ... He declared the U.S. had to own up to the past before it could hope for a better future with Iran.
"In the past years, the U.S. has burned many bridges but the new White House can rebuild them" if it "accepts its mistakes and changes its policies," Larijani said.

Love this one too. I suppose these troops won't be "occupiers".

The U.S. plans to send 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan, roughly doubling its presence. But coming into the conference, German officials have reiterated that they do not want to commit to more forces. Still, German Chancellor Angela Merkel's spokesman said before the meetings that did not mean the door to such discussions was closed.

Your thread title is misleading.

There is no mention of "preconditions" anywhere.

Yes, this is a terribly important and meaningful development. The Iranians talked some shit. First time ever, since the last time.

This is called a precondition.

No, it's not. Not in any way, shape, or form could those comments be taken as a precondition.

Your over the top, sensationalist and false title states "Iran Sets Preconditions for Talks with US." But nowhere in there is there anything stating Iran won't talk to the US. All that's there is typical political rhetoric from Iran. The subject of US and Iran talks does not exist in the snippet you provided. You're falsifying context to cause a big stir where none exists. I don't know if you're intentionally trying to troll, or if you just misunderstood the article.

You can talk to someone and still not be reconsiled with them. You can talk to someone and still not have a better future because of it.

Admitting your past is a necessary step to improving your future. That's common sense and Iran is perfectly correct in their statement. I'd say Obama has the same belief as he's been apologizing for the actions of the last administration since he became President. Obama knows that America's reputation has been horribly tarnished by Bush and has been going out of his way to let other nations know his policies would not continue.
