The firing of Cho just really feels like the final straw for me. I was upset with how they handled KP, and now this... I just don't identify with this team at all. They don't capture the spirit of Portland at all.

How much would it cost for the city to buy the Blazers? I'd rather model ourselves after the Green Bay Packers and just run the team ourselves. Fuck Paul Allen and fuck the Vulcans. We need to run this shit.

That would be awesome. Then Paul Allen can try getting a team back to Seattle.

It really is a rudderless boat of an organization.

Though, all will be forgiven if they (who? I don't know) can make some smart bold moves to put is back in the hunt to at least get out of the first round.

What should the next GM do to learn from this firing?

Don't FUCK with Brandon Roy. :sigh:

The decision actually makes me more excited as a fan. I like hearing that my owner isn't satisfied with three straight first round exits. Changes need to be made. What we had this year didn't work and wouldn't have worked next year. I'm ready to part with Nate and many of our players too. I truly believe that winning is all that matters to Paul Allen. That is not true of all owners.

Even though your owner might be a fairly big part of why we have had 3 first round exits in a row?

I don't really know about that situation intimately, but after reading about it, it doesn't seem very replicable in the NBA.

Well yeah; Stern would have to mail out 500,000 letters detailing his plans for which teams will win in the playoffs, instead of just 30.

See, that's the thing. That's what I tried to tell PatterNash when I was on the "Fan Advisory Board". That's what I told Larry Miller calling into the Canzano show after KP was canned: Winning solves everything. Get the team out of the first round, and I don't give a shit if Bozo the Clown is G.M. Really, does it matter to me who wears the empty suit? Just fucking win, baby.

Yeah, I really don't care if there is a 1 year lock out. This team is not entertaining to watch with it's plodding pace and pathetic half court offense. It's over-paid players, it's injury riddled roster, clueless coach. And JUST when you think this franchise has it turned around, or is about to do something great, some kind of tragedy strikes and takes it all away.

And the way they didn't seem to "get up" for the playoffs this year was really disappointing. It's like, why did I root for them the whole season to watch them fold in the playoffs? I know they were going against a very good team, but I think they actually could have BEATEN Dallas.

I wasn't stunned when Pritchard was fired. The signs were there the entire season, the Canzano rumors were there for a long time, and KP not sitting by Allen was a much bigger deal than most posters thought it was.

This Cho thing, after sleeping on it for a night, does stun me. Not that I think that Cho was any great GM; I'm not even sure he proved to be average. Mainly that the guy wasn't allowed to run a draft, which is the best thing about his tenure at OKC, IMO.

I'm not sure if I'm fed up with the team. It's more like I have never been more confused about the direction of the team.

I'm fed up with the injuries. That's it. I love and applaud everything else. GO TRAIL BLAZERS!

I have been feeling more and more disinterested with this team as time goes on - the ongoing TV package issue is the biggest issue - but everything that goes around is just adding insult to injury. I got nothing against the players or the coaches - I love them and I am a fan and I want them to succeed - but the organization, at large, is getting harder and harder to care for.

FWIW - I reduced the number of games I attend every year in succession for the last 3 years. I suspect this trend is not going to change going forward.

Don't care for the instability. And don't care for the sudden firing. But I suppose if it is going to happen eventually, better now than for things to get truly out of hand and disfunctional. If there was poor collaboration between the two, it could have hindered our ability to do anything. A lack of trust on Paul's part would hamper Cho's ability to do his job.
I worry it will continue, but I'm not in a giving up on the team mood. Worried about Paul, and if he can find a match. But I am also thinking I'd prefer a crazy rich owner to a stable one looking to just profit.

The GM turnover and lack of reasonable explanation by management is certainly disturbing. However, we still have a good team and a rich owner. I won't desert them.

The only player that is "over-paid" is Roy, and it's because of his injury. If he wasn't injured, he wouldn't have been over-paid. What other player do you think is over-paid?

This is exactly how I feel as well. I only went to one game last year after going to 15-20 the last five years or so. Teams without stability in upper level management don't succeed and often don't have a clear direction of where they team should be going and how to get there. Miller's comments about not knowing what they want in a GM is what really scares me, considering we've gone through six since 2002.

I was fed up when the team gave away Bonzi Wells and it clearly marked the end of the Blazers' competitiveness... I'm confused and a bit frustrated by Cho being let go, but I am not nearly as upset. I think that the team is still committed to winning in a way that they simply weren't (or weren't capable of) under PatterNash.

The Blazers got Wesley Person and a #1 pick for him, and Bonzi was fairly terrible for the remainder of that contract. That PatterNash then used that #1 pick on Sergei Monia instead of Tony Allen, Kevin Martin, or Anderson Vareho was the mistake, IMO.

Person was then flipped to Atlanta in the Rasheed trade, which did net SAR and Theo Ratliff.

Portland traded its second-best player for a guy who was below-average and a worthless draft pick. We helped a Western conference team make the playoffs ahead of us. It was the first step (after Whitsitt's dismissal) of the team spiraling into the toilet for years.

But yeah, it wasn't a mistake.

Take a look at Bonzi's career arc after that trade. His team didn't get out of the first round, he was oft-injured and even suspended, and is basically a footnote in NBA history.

Good riddance.

Take a look at the Blazers for the next several years after that trade and tell me the team was better off without him.

Tell the the team was good with him. They were 6-7 when he was traded, and he had an 11.3 PER and a -0.1 WS. He wanted out of Portland, and Portland want him out of Portland.

A fucking footnote.

The team was fine. It was 13 games into the season and it would have improved, no question in my mind, if management hadn't panicked.

He had 15.9 and 16.6 PERs the next two years. A footnote? Sure. Every single miserable failure of the PatterNash regime is a footnote.

It doesn't mean that it wasn't the first in a string of pathetic moves.

I just want to feel like I know what to expect from this team. I want to see some kind of direction and vision and then see it executed. Instead the way it's managed at the top makes it feel a bit like 5 people all trying to drive one car at the same time. So am I fed up? Kind of, but I feel like I know it's a gigantic circus behind the scenes instead of merely suspecting it, so knowing that we're the Raiders of the NBA I'm going to be less upset because I kind of have a feel for what to expect going forward. Does that make sense?

Wow what a bullshit statement. The Raiders have been the worst team in the NFL for over 12 years. I don't see how you can even compare the two types of teams and owners.

1.) Allen has proven that he sticks with his players until all is lost. Al Davis, would have gotten rid of anyone in the organization that even speaks their mind. That would mean Roy, Oden and Miller all would have either been benched or showed the door.

2.) Al Davis wants a coach to be his puppet. Obviously Nate is his own person and is doing what he wants. Nate still has a job, so it blows your comparison out of the water.

3.) The Raiders have had some of the worst draft picks. In fact, the only time the pick was worth a shit was when they drafted Woodson and Buchanon. That was nearly 10 years ago.

I'm about as patient and understanding with this team as anyone here - but if they traded Batum and/or Crash to GSW, I would seriously consider rooting for the local team here . . . and that's saying A LOT.

I thought Nnamdi Asamugha was a great pick late in the first round. Darren McFadden had an excellent season last year as well.

Plus, the 2010 draft was full of productive rookies that weren't even all first-round picks. Jacoby Ford, Rolando McClain, Lamarr Houston, Jared Velheer, Walter McFadden, Stevie Brown, and Jeremy Ware were all major contributors on an 8-8 team. Ware, a 7th-round pick, is good enough for Oakland to not spend tens of millions on Nnamdi, which while it hurts, is probably best for the team. Bruce Campbell, while a project, was a beast on special teams, and helped spring Ford for some long gains.

I'm not sure another NFL team in the last 5 years had major contributions from that many players drafted in their rookie seasons.
