Is Monta Ellis the answer at PG?

And you think people bitch about Bayless's prospects of developing into a point guard. Tons of talent, but I dunno ...

Man, what are they thinking in GS? He's their only hope at this point, they should be going out of their way not to push him out the door.

An Ellis/Roy back court would be the toughest in the NBA to stop from scoring.

He's the player I envision Bayless eventually becoming. If he's available for a trade, I hope KP makes a pitch.

Oh, and I know I bitch about Nate a lot, but I'm glad we don't have to deal with Nelson's ego issues.

Ellis is a great talent and still very young. If he can be had for pennies on the dollar, Pritchard should be all over that.

Ellis isn't a point guard, but he can play alongside Roy. He has the drive and dish game, and he's quick enough to defend point guards.

I'd love to get Ellis if he were healthy and the same player he was before this injury. Even though he's making a ton of money... but the guy can really ball and a really good scorer who could take pressure off Roy in the backcourt.

Ellis is a combo guard, but he and Roy can start at the 1/2 or 2/1 as both could bring it up a bit.

Ellis would be perfect for this team, but almost certainly out of the possibility. We'd have to give up Alrdige (who would be an amazing player in GS's system) and I'm not willing to do that.

I'd give up anything not named Roy, Aldridge, and Oden for him. Even throw in Batum.

But I doubt a combination of Rudy, Outlaw, and anyone else could work under the cap and would be accepted by GS.

I'd be willing to part with Bayless, Rudy, Outlaw (doubt they'd want him) and Raef for Ellis and a contract... it will help us consolidate and bring back a star, along w/ giving us the best backcourt in the NBA.

I find it funny that fans bitch about Bayless at point when Brandon "everyone's darling" Roy has come out and said he does not want to play with a PG that needs to dominate the ball. Bayless is the player he is referring to. Bayless can guard PG's, but still allow Roy to play the point on offense.

Ellis would fit that role as well.

Everyone's always saying that our players will do better in other peoples 'systems'. WTF is up with our system?! I mean, hell! Why do they always have to excel when they're traded?

and to keep on topic, i'd love to have Monta. But i think it would be too costly.

If this writer has the situation pegged right, this would be an interesting situation. Apparently Kp is looking for a "star" type player, but doesn't want to give up any of our main pieces in return. What if Ellis came back from his injury, of course wouldn't be 100% physically and condition-wise and had sort of a mediocre 2nd half. Might not the Warriors, and other clubs be ambivalent on a player like that with a big fat contract? Especially if the Warriors continue to have a bad season, would they think about blowing it up once again? Would they take some of our younger players and draft picks?

Would we absolutely want to do this? This is a guy who refused to shake anybody's hand at the end of the McDonald's game, supposedly because the coach didn't give him sufficient minutes at the PG position. Was this immaturity that he has grown out of? This is a guy, who despite seeming to have the physical skills to be a good defender, hasn't put the effort into being one. Would he be willing to learn, especially if out of GS?

Ho hum, yet another grass is greener post.

Seems everyone NOT on the Blazers is great and everyone ON the Blazers sucks - until they leave, then they are great.

1. Ellis is not a point guard
2. He has a serious injury
3. He lied to his team about the source of his injury, since he had violated his contract

Sure, let's trade Oden, Aldridge and Blake for this clown.

Well if we could get him w/o giving up our Big 2 and then Oden and then Batum then i'd do it. And we'd probably have our starting 5 for 10 years-ish...

Gives us a reliable 2nd scorer and someone who I think would mesh well w/ Roy. He isn't the best fit out there, but his value might be as low as its going to get because he will eventually round back into form and be a great player again.

Our system is a non system in all reality.

Our offense is predicated on Brandon Roy bailing us out most of the time.

Nate runs an offense that has no real identity. They don't pound the ball inside, they don't attack the rim before the defense gets set, they don't run at every opportunity. They are really a team without an identity. Nate says every year he wants to push the ball, and has the players to do it. It never happens though. Against Chicago for example the team did push the ball and we scored a lot of dunks and easy baskets.

Sergio, Travis, Rudy, Bayless, Aldridge, , Batum, Oden, Joel, Webster, and even Roy if he wanted to would be great on a team where they ran a lot.

Tim Kawakami seems to be guessing/speculating a lot in this article. Isn't The Mercury one of those gossip rags you see at the Wal Mart check stand?

Yes, Yes & yes....are you kidding me? Even though what he did was boneheaded , if POR could get thier hands on him w\o giving up the big 4 (Roy, Aldridge, Oden & Fernandez) they should do it......

Ellis is premier scorer and would certainly add some significant punch to the starting lineup....without a doubt I would do it....

they are talking nellie wants randolph out too, if we can make a play for ellis and randolph, i would be estatic.

What a dumb ass team. If they're smart, they would fire Nelson's fat ass, not run promising young players out of town.

trouble is you never know what he's gonna come back like. some players are never the same after major injury and/or this kind of conflict.

I think Ellis is severely over rated and can't play a lick of D. :pimp:

I'd bet on Ellis getting traded and wouldn't be surprised if Randolph wsa gone too. The Ws have the worst management in the league, maybe in professional sports, and can't decide which direction they want to go.

I'd think that any deals involving them will be salary dump deals, each coming with one of Jackson, Maggette, or Crawford, any wouldn't cost much more than Raef's contract and maybe Outlaw (nellie would love him), Frenandez, or a pick.

I wouldn't be surprised if they dumped Brandan Wright too, who I think looks like he could be better than Randolph.

Ellis is tantalizing. How many PG/SG's average 20 ppg and shoot 53% from the field like he did last year?

He is great in the open court.

He's not a PG though.

As many play in Don Nelsons Stat Inflating System.:tsktsk:

Teams rarely trade their best players within the same conference as they run the risk of looking really stupid multi-times a year. Portland also doesn't have the sort of spare parts that I'd think they'd want back (stud PG or PF). I like him and think he'd be great beside Roy but don't see ME as a reasonable possibility.

Sadly for Raiders fans, the Warriors don't even have the worst management in Oakland. (irrelevant to main point of discussion but still true)

Nope. The San Jose Mercury News is the best paper in the Bay Area and one of the best in the nation.

I'm with MrJayremmie...I'd deal something like LaFrentz, Bayless, Outlaw and a draft pick for Ellis and a contract. I might even include Fernandez, though I'd try my best to keep either him or Bayless. Even adjusted for pace, Ellis' numbers are fantastic...and considering his age, he has a chance to get even better.

It would be a great consolidation trade.

I'd do that in a second. 2 backups and an expiring contract for a future star/starter. I think he does what we need from our PG position except his outside shot, but his ability to get to the hoop and score at a high % would REALLY help this team.

Meh. I'm not a big fan of Ellis. He's a good midrange jumpshooter and he's a scorer, but he's not a good defender and I am not convinced that he's going to get much better.

I know I'm in the minority here, but...

Ed O.

I tried to make the trade machine work on a 3-way trade with Toronto (giving Bargaini to GS to play 4/5), GS (Ellis to PDX, Randolph to Toronto), and us (giving up literally anything) but I could never make it work.
