The sixth-seeded Bakersfield Jam came back from a 16 point deficit to beat the defending NBA Development League Champion and third-seeded Rio Grande Valley Vipers by a score of 110-105 in Game 1 of the series at Jam Events Center Friday night. The victory marks the first playoff win in franchise history.

The Vipers held a commanding 66-54 halftime lead by shooting 50% from the field in the first half compared to the Jam's 38.1% and hitting 5 more three-pointers than Bakersfield. The Jam rallied back and took the lead with 5:33 remaining in the game on a Jeremy Wise three-pointer to go up 94-92.

The teams went on to exchange leads until Trey Johnson hit a jumper with 1:38 left to give the Jam a lead they would not surrender. Johnson hit another jumper with 19.2 seconds to go and Wise hit a pair of free throws with 10.4 seconds remaining to give the Jam a 108-102 lead. Connor Atchley drained a three-pointer on the next possession to bring the Vipers within three, but Wise hit a pair of free throws in the final seconds to put the game away. Bakersfield outscored Rio Grande Valley 31-18 in the final period.

Trey Johnson scored a game-high 29 points, 20 of which came in the second half. Jeremy Wise added 24 points, 15 of which came from the foul line. Derrick Byars contributed 14 points and Los Angeles Lakers assignee, Derrick Caracter, had 12 points and 9 rebounds.

Jerel McNeal led the Vipers with 22 points on the night. Jon Scheyer tallied 20 points and Richard Roby finished with 17.

Game 2 between Bakersfield (1-0) and Rio Grande Valley (0-1) is Tuesday, April 12 at State Farm Arena. The Jam lead the best-of-three series 1-0 and can move on to the semi-finals with a win.
