Feel sorry for Jarrett, good guy, but I'd rather prefer the guys who replaced him in the rotation.

The voice sounds tired, maybe a little wistful. Things with the Indiana Pacers are going “all right – not super special, but fine,” Jarrett Jack says.

He perks up, though, when asked if he has been following his old team, the Trail Blazers.

“Oh, yeah,” says Jack, sent to Indiana in the offseason trade that landed Ike Diogu and a draft pick Portland used to select Jerryd Bayless. “I’ve been in touch with a lot of the guys, talking with them back and forth, almost as if I were still their teammate.

“They’re doing a great job putting themselves into a good position early in the season. It’s all about being consistent. If they can keep doing that through April, they have a shot at contending.”

There are a lot of things Jack misses about Portland. The Pacers and Blazers don’t square off until March 4 at the Rose Garden, then again two weeks later at Indianapolis.

“I’ll be happy to see some friends of mine,” Jack says. “I spent three years there, getting comfortable with the city and my teammates. The fans there are wonderful. (The franchise) gave me my first opportunity to live out my NBA dream. That’s something I won’t forget.”

good story..i like jarrett but he just never fit with the team. i wish him all the success and will stand up and cheer for him on march 4

I always loved Jarret and I wish him the best. He was this team's emotional leader next to Roy being it's calming, thinking star leader.

I really loved Jack as a person, but yeah, i didn't think his game neccesarily fit w/ our team, and def. not now that we got Rudy and soon to be Jerryd playing in his place. And Sergio gets more of a shot now, and he is doin' great! I love watching Sergio play. Just gotta keep workin' on his J.

He could have been a good fit. But he opted to sulk and then asked for a trade. I wish him well.

Now we can look forward ot JJ's turnovers as a good thing.

Wow. What a great attitude and kind thoughts. Just more proof that the "culture" here is very special the players that develop in it are special too. It take the the right kind of team player to fit here.

Jarrett never asked for a trade.....

If BP says that Jarrett asked for a trade, then Jarrett asked for a trade.

Trust me on this. ;)

Jarrett is learning that the grass isn't greener. He spent his last two years here asking the GM to send him East. I loved Jarrett Jack here. I thought he could become another Terry Porter for us.

I don't mind having a player on another team being wistful about being a Blazer. He'll spread the word and more free agents will tell their representatives to get in contact with Kevin Pritchard.

I always liked his effort, but hated the fact he found way to lose games. I watched him play a few times at Indy this year, he, is as he always is. Works hard, but finds a way to make mistakes.

I miss Jarrett. Still wish he was here over some other guys. He never deserved the bullshit treatment he got on these boards. If anyone boos him I will strangle their asses at the game, my wife will too..so watch out! ;)

Jarret was a good player on a young, up and coming team. Don't you think he would be better this year with Rudy, Oden a more seasoned Roy and Lamarcus? That said, I am glad we have Bayless.

I just wish he could have been consistent.

Some thoughts:

1. I wasn't around for most of the Jack bashing. He was an OK rotation player on a bad team... not quick enough or a good enough shooter to really make a difference on a consistent basis. Not sure why he was so disliked around here, though.

2. This is good evidence that players don't get upset when they get traded from a good situation. Or at least not always. If we have to trade Blake or Joel or whomever to upgrade the team, I don't think we need to worry about poisoning the well for future transactions or shattering the culture we've built.

3. I am delighted we have Bayless at the end of our bench, rather than Jack. Of course, the closer exchange is Diogu for Jack, since we would otherwise have taken Rush (or whomever) with our lottery pick. In any case, there wouldn't have been room for JJ to play this year, so we might as well have a younger player with more upside on the roster.

Ed O.

Yeah no booing of Jarret at the RG this year; the guy wasn't all that great, but he sure gave it everything he had. I'll always respect his contribution to the team ... even if it was sometimes maddening.

I just wish he could have been consistent.

He was - he consistently led the league in turnovers off the bench.

In all seriousness, I like Jarrett Jack as a person. He was ALWAYS a good post game interview - intelligent and candid. None of the "both teams played hard" mindless, canned BS.

I've spent half my life in Indiana and half in Portland. I have very fond memories of growing up in Indiana, but would never move back there. No offense to anyone from my original home state, but I vastly prefer the scenic beauty and more socially progressive attitude here in Oregon. I don't blame Jarrett one bit for missing Portland. I would, too.

We didn't replace Jack with Bayless so much as we replaced Jack with Rudy. I think Rudy has made the most difference to our team this year, more than GO (who could have been replaced by Joel) and more than Batum (who could have been replaced by Travis).

I never understood the Jack Hate. He wasn't happy here but he was the only guy on the team who would take it to the hole. It doesn't bother me that he wasn't an All Star--he never half-assed it on the court. If I'm in PDX when Indy comes to town, I'll give him a cheer for three years of playing hard in the Scarlet & Black.

I agree - no booing Jack (or any ex-Blazer )at the RG. It's classless and cowardly. Portland fans are better than that. Guys who played here and worked hard deserve our thanks. I won't be in the stands for the Indy game, but if I was, I'd be on my feet clapping when Jack is introduced/enters the game. Not every player is a superstar, but that doesn't mean they deserve ridicule, hatred and scorn.

I'm sure one of the things Jack, and other former Blazers, love about Portland is the intelligent, supportive fans. That's the image we want to perpetuate.

JJ was a vary cool guy! I wish him the best.

I plan on going JJ a good hand when he is introduced. I will support any player who played hard for the team, and that is what he did.

Tell that to the asshats that booed Zach last year. I know Z-bo had a somewhat tumultuous run in PDX, with his share of "Jailblazer" esque moments, but I was really disappointed that people jumped on him last year when the Knicks came to town.

And, to the idiots that booed Kevin Love at the Minnesota game last month. Nothing like getting booed in your hometown debut. I was embarassed to be there for that.

As far as Zach goes, he had his share of off court troubles, but he did play hard and made himself a better player. He came back from microfracture surgery to have his best season as a pro his final year with the Blazers. I sat behind his brother Roger on a flight to Indianaplois the day after Zach was traded to the Knicks. I told him to wish Zach well and thank him for his hard work and effort while in Portland. I even told him I hoped Zach would make the all-star team in the East.

I would have booed Kevin Love, but that's only because he went to the wrong HS.:ghoti:

Nah, I'm proud of anyone from LO who makes it to the big time, even if they were Lakers.

As for booing Zach, that just allows us to point out everyone who outsources their thinking to John Canzano. Zach Randolph was the only legitimate NBA starter on this team for three years. If we want to be dissatisfied with the losing that went on, blaming our best player seems an odd place to focus that frustration. For all of his off-court flaws, the guy signs his big contract and then works his ass off to come back from MF. I wasn't a fan of his game or his personality, but he worked hard and was a hell of a pick that far down in the draft.

I wish Jarrett the best. I love his fire that he brings to the game. We need players that wont back down from anyone. Unfortunately his playing style never really meshed with what we needed to do to win.

I don't give a shit about Kevin Love. He plays on the enemy now, and never played as a Blazer. Why should I give a rats ass about him?
