Jews ordered to register in east Ukraine

Way to not fact check, John Kerry.

Secretary of State John Kerry said the language of the leaflets "is beyond unacceptable" and condemned whomever is responsible.

"In the year 2014, after all of the miles traveled and all of the journey of history, this is not just intolerable — it's grotesque," he said. "And any of the people who engage in these kinds of activities — from whatever party or whatever ideology or whatever place they crawl out of — there is no place for that."

The leaflets were handed out. The government of the Ukraine isn't behind it. Seems simple to me.

I wonder if we can charge Further and Crandc a $50 Jewish registration fee?

Further would argue he's an atheist, and crandc would ask why you're discriminating against her lifestyle.

But if you pay the fee it will show them it's a good thing to do.

Be a leader, pay me $50.

So, whether or not this is real or fake, the brings up a question I have been meaning to ask this forum:

What's the deal with anti-semitism?

Now, granted, I'm Jewish so of course I am biased, but I don't get all the Jew hatred around the world. Does it have to do with the killing of Jesus? As I see it, Jews don't proselytize, they stress education and values and hard work, they are funny and charitable, and the ones I know try to be menschy (mostly).

Now, Israel today is a different matter, or maybe it's not. I was in the West Bank a few years ago and it changed my view of the situation almost 180 degrees. But even given the bully that is Israel, general anti-semitism runs much deeper.

Anyone care to enlighten?

I don't get it either, but I think some of it has to do with the stereotype that Jews are greedy and cheap. That's the best I can come up with. Half the time I have no idea that someone is Jewish.

I've never understood it either. I do know that many anti-Semites believe that Jews are in disproportionate control of much of the world. It could also stem from a basic misinterpretation of the Bible, suggesting that God rejected the Jews as His chosen people. Outside of that, I have no idea.

Anyone ever watch that old Brendan Fraser movie "School Ties"? That movie confused the heck out of me back in the day, because I had always thought that anti-Semitism was just a WWII-era thing; the idea that it still existed was baffling.

School ties was set in the 50's though.

Look at the behavior of the Ukrainians in WWII and the strains of anti-Semitism seen in the country is no surprise. They welcomed the Nazis as liberators and many Ukrainians served in the SS.

You think the Israelis are bullies? They've begged for a two-state solution and the Palestinians have refused that one condition.

Is GoldStandard just waiting in the wings for the exact right moment to post conspiracy theory videos?

I don't get it either. If somebody would do something about all the filthy Hawaiians around here........

Jew registration and gun-owner registration.

Same motivations, same goals.

Scapegoating Jews is one of the older and easiest ways to rally a populace against a sole target. It's not that difficult to understand. Much the same as the non-stop "1%" scapegoating we see today. Pick a relatively small, yet affluent demographic. Keep your poor and your dumb angry at them, instead of looking at the leadership who is doing the scapegoating.
