Although he's an RFA he has broken off talks with the BJs. Glen should throw an offer his way and send Nash packing.

They aren't going to want Nash back. You are probably looking at a deal of Stepan, Staal and Fast. This I would do. Stepan and Staal both are going to want 5+ million. In the end, even if you pay Johansen 6.5 a year, you are probably saving at least 5 million off your cap. Rangers are better team with this down the line.

Yes he is moron because the Rangers have no room to sign Staal who they will lose for nothing anyway. Fast won't make this team any longer. So basically it's Johansen for Stepan and Johansen is the better player.

Johansen is an unsigned RFA so all Glen has to do is make a substantial offer (Nash money), would most likely cost him 1st-2nd-3rd round draft picks if Columbus doesn't match the offer. The tricky part would be making cap room, dumping Nash would be the most logical solution. Johansen has felt the BJ's disrespected him with their initial qualifying offer a few months ago and he's now turned down a few $6+ mil/year offers from JD.

It would cost the Rangers 2 first round picks, one second and one third because he's going to want over 6.5 million from all reports. No thanks. Rangers have too much salary as it is and need to find guys to replace those overpaid players. Stepan will command 6 million next year. So will Staal. Why would you dump one of your best goal scoring wings if you bring in a center. It's dumb. As incompetent as Nash was in the playoffs, you don't trade him when you bring in a center.

$5,046 mil to $6,728 mil offer compensation requirements are a 1st-2nd-3rd rounder, over $6.728 adds the additional 1st rounder but it's actually a moot point since the Rangers don't have a first rounder of their own to compensate the BJs.

but if he continues to develop (30gl scorer already) then he'll be worth a lot more than $6M anyways and would probably get some Toews / Kane / Crosby / Malkin deal, especially since the cap would presumably only go up.
Your right, but the guys has really only had one good season, so that remains to be seen....
yup, he needs to do it again and again, but 3yrs gives him that window to really prove himself, and if he does then he's worth a lot. If he doesn't, the cap hit for the BJ's is only $4M and then they can revisit a new extension at a lower price, or a trade since i believe he'd be a RFA and not UFA (not sure there).
The fact he signed a 3yr deal, and not a 1yr or even 2yr deal, makes me think he is willing to be there long term despite the apparent bad blood during negotiations.
