Guess that means either Gardner or Beltran is most likely gone.
 
That moves also tells me that the Yankees in all likelihood are holding onto Sanchez now that they need a backup catcher. As far as the OF since this is Beltran's last year anyway I'm hoping they move Gardner.
 
Might also mean Sanchez isn't going anywhere and maybe he shouldn't.
Probably the Yanks best hitting prospect and did well in AAA and currently in Fall League.
Sorry to see Murphy go and now have to wonder if he couldn't have been used in package for more in return.
Hicks still young with talent and has a chance to blossom.

First impression - not crazy about the trade.
Murphy looks as if he's ready to be a full time catcher, sound defensively with a very decent stick, young.....should translate into a valuable commodity. All depends on the rigors of catching everyday.
Hicks has very good physical skills, can steal bases, also has yet to play a full season, former top prospect not too long ago.
Struggled vs RHP last year.
Hit well vs LHP last year.

I also liked Murphy- but a lil while back I mentioned in a post with Sanchez being discussed as a possible trade chip saying:
I don't think the Yanks are going to trade their top all around hitting prospect who did well at AAA and doing well in the Fall League -perhaps Murphy could be the one getting traded.

Now that Murph is gone, who is going to be the backup catcher?
Would they promote Sanchez? I hope it isn't Romine.

Trading Murphy? WTF? looks like the 2016 plan is to get pwnd early and often.

I did make a suggestion to try and and help us find out how it could make the Yanks better.

Gardy and/or Beltran could now be used in trades to "improve" the team while getting cheaper and .....um...younger?
Also opening up another outfield spot for Heathcott or Williams/Judge.

2015:
Hicks 390 PA - 11 hr, 33 rbi, 13/16 SB, .256 ba, .721 ops
Gardy 656 PA- 16 hr, 66 rbi, 20/25 SB, .259 ba, .742 ops

Hicks 26 yrs old, $ 550K per
Gardy 32 yrs old, owed 39- 51 mil (?)
Hicks has to be expected to at least approximate what Gardy gave them offensively with a good chance of improving on those numbers getting a couple hundred more PA than last year (390) without losing anything on defense.

Then there is Sanchez for backup catcher. ?

Cashman said he'd be comfortable with Gary Sanchez as McCann's backup "but that doesn't mean that's going to happen." Romine also in mix.

Hicks bad vs RHP but picked it up a bit in 2015,
Career vs RHP .206 ba, .596 OPS
2015 vs RHP .236 ba, .663 OPS

Has also shown improvement vs LHP
Career vs LHP .272 ba, .808 OPS
2015 vs LHP .307 ba, .870 OPS

Last I checked.....catchers that can be starters have a lot of value. I get and forgave the Cisco deal, he was an NL type of catcher and damaged goods anyway. But Murphy has a lot of potential. Who backs up McCann now?

Besides, enough with the bit deals just to do deals....fucking address the 4 elephants in the locker room. Cashman is an idiot.
 
...^^^nah, as per usual, Cashman has things firmly under control...firing he hitting coach 2 years in a row plus the additions of Hicks and Herrera should easily put the Yanx over the top. :blazerwookie:
