About five years after I started following Oregon recruiting, we had one of the top recruits in the NW (considered by many as the top WA/OR HS player) in Johnny DuRocher. Gifted QB who I watched twice play near where I was living at the time, Bethel, WA.
The kid was a total stud. Nice kid off the field too and every time I saw him, he was sporting Oregon gear. I even recall an Oregonian article about him with a pic at his HS - wearing Oregon gear. Total stud..6'4", 210#, 4.8-40 with an arm that could hit on a dime at 60 yards. He was WA player of the year and a total steal for UO out of UW's backyard.
Harrington and Clemens made it pretty hard to crack anything higher than #3, so Johnny transferred to UW. He had two or three solid games, but after a concussion was found to have a brain tumor. He had major brain surgery.
He was with the Mariners farm team for a while and attempted a comeback with some Div-II team but after that, never heard from the kid - this was around 2008.
I really thought this kid has a lot of potential and could be our next Harrington. But, it just didn't develop.
Anyone know what happen to Johnny, if he recovered or where he is today??
...simple google searches don't bring up anything past 2008.
