The U.S. military sent a memo to service members on Sept. 18, alerting them to “incel extremist” chatter online about replicating the 2012 Aurora shooting at nationwide screenings of the upcoming Warner Bros. film Joker.
“When entering theaters, identify two escape routes, remain aware of your surroundings, and remember the phrase ‘run, hide, fight,’” Gizmodo reported the email saying. “Run if you can. If you’re stuck, hide (also referred to as ‘sheltering in place’), and stay quiet. If a shooter finds you, fight with whatever you can.”
The memo describes incels — individuals who self-identify as “involuntary celibates” — as people “who who express frustration from perceived disadvantages to starting intimate relationships. Incel extremists idolize violent individuals like the Aurora movie theater shooter.”
In 2012, James Holmes opened fire in a Colorado movie theatre and killed 12 people, wounding 70 others, who were there to watch a midnight screening of the Dark Knight Rises.
The Army said it became aware of the potential threats when the FBI sent a bulletin as a precaution, although there was no official indications of a mass shooting.
“While our standard practice is to not comment on specific intelligence products, the FBI is in touch with our law enforcement and private sector partners about the online posts,” an FBI spokesperson said. “As always, we encourage the public to remain vigilant and to promptly report suspicious activity to law enforcement.”
Senior officials in the Army’s criminal investigation division stated Monday the Army obtained “credible” intelligence that Texas law enforcement received of disturbing and very specific chatter” on the dark web “regarding the targeting of an unknown movie theatre during the release.”
“We do this routinely because the safety and security of our workforce is paramount,” an Army spokesperson told Gizmodo. “We want our workforce to be prepared and diligent on personal safety both inside the workplace and out.”
Joker, the latest edition to the DC Comics franchise, depicts the tortured origin story of the character, played by Joaquin Phoenix. The character, Arthur Fleck, begins as a failed stand-up comedian who descends into madness and becomes a mass killer, inspiring those around him to engage in violent anarchy.
The film stirred up controversy after the release of its trailer coincided with a series of mass shootings that rocked the United States, including the El Paso and Dayton, Ohio tragedies.
Critics have pointed out the film allows incels to sympathize with the main character, where incels too feel alienated from society and often turn to violent thought and actions when they believe they have not been given what they deserve, especially when it comes to sex, romantic relationships and desired physical features.
I've had paranoia about those kind of things for a while. I think after that one theatre shooting.
Yeah Aurora did it for me too. I sit in the top corner where I can see everyone. I don't fuck around. Constant vigilance.
I'll be going to see the movie when it comes out. Hopefully, nothing happens.
I rarely watch movies, but when I do I go to the ones with the lazy boy couches and shit like that. Nothing blocking my way out, plus not too many people there.
Also watch movies at weird times like 11pm at night to avoid crowds and so I'm not wasting my day.
Someone needs to start a hooker please fuck me fund for these losers.
YOU NEED TO ADD A WARNING TO WATCH OUT FOR INCELS IN THE TITLE OF THIS WEBSITE. THIS IS A PUBLIC SAFETY ISSUE.
I personally preferred Jack Nicholson's Joker. However, Mark Hamill provides the spot on laugh and dialogue in the animated series. Before someone tells me I get that this is supposed to be Jokers origin story, it just seems like the acting is real weird like fake trying to copy HL.
Joakin Phoenix is a tremendous actor.I saw Joker. Joaquin Phoenix was absolutely tremendous. It’s a good movie. Dark, of course, but it’s really about more than the Joker, just about his personal problems and why he is the way he is. Maybe not for everyone but it’s well made and again, Phoenix is outstanding.
Who goes too the theater anymore?I've had paranoia about those kind of things for a while. I think after that one theatre shooting.

I'll bet I haven't been to a movie in ten years. Do they make any movies that star a grandpa? Most movies are designed for the young, i.e. under 30 which includes kids.Who goes too the theater anymore?
