I know that I said that the Yanx need to go after this guy, but after having time to think about it, I don't think there's any way the Yanx can trade and then resign him long term unless they are giving up on resigning Judge because there's no way the Yanx are gonna sign BOTH...the asking price for Soto is multiple top tier prospects and IMO, that's just too steep for only a 3 month rental.
So, all things considered, I'd rather have Judge and the Yanx should lock him up after this season. (8 years/$300 Mil?)
I still think the smartest move is to somehow jettison Chapman and/or Gallo and/or Donaldson if possible, and trade for the player that I've been harping about and makes the most sense to me and is the best fit the Yanx, which is Andrew Benintendi.
Again, just my 2 cents.
EDIT: My bad, Soto would not be a "3 month rental"...he would be under team control for another 2 1/2 years) which would be worth it, depending on the prospects the Yanx would have to give up. But Soto will also be arby-eligible next year as well as 2024.
BUT, also, rumors say that Washington would also want any trade for Soto to include also taking on Patrick Corbin and that god awful contract Washington gave him...if true, for me, that's a deal breaker.
