typical partizan response.
Both parties are stuck in muck.
The status quo large government, fatten the lobbyist, crooked professional politicians have done very little over the years to unite this country.
Calvinball versus Commieball.....
I'll go with keeping God in, versus throwing him out...even though I'm not all that religious. All things common like the socialism represents would be this countries demise.
Glory Glory Alleluia

allahu akbar?

And what if Obama went to a summit with Kim, got nothing but some vague promises, and oh, btw, blew up the G7 on the way there? Trump loves Putin and Kim but disses Canada (with whom we have a trade surplus!) and Merkel. Clearly he is creating the world Putin wants.

I wonder what they really have on him?

So you'll refuse those Medicare and Social Security benefits as well as fire and police services, etc? Not me......Greed will be this country's demise if anything...better hope an airborne virus never hits the general population when only those of ways and means have medical benefits...democracy works well with both social services and free enterprise. Our military system is about as socialistic as you can get...disaster relief is also socialistic...somebody has to feed and shelter those 600 families in Pahoa that lost everything in the volcanic eruption.

There is a difference in my mind of a socialistic government versus a lean democratic government that can offer SOME social assistance where needed.
A communist/socialistic society, firstly manages all things for all. The State has power over every aspect of society. Their main reason to suppress and control social freedom is if they can get everyone doing something one way it's much easier easier to control. Also, must communist/marxist/socialist countries either do allow or very much control freedoms, that our country was built on. Religion, speech, etc.
A democratic government can be built on small gov & more freedoms and still address social assistance.
Never give a democratic government more power than what was intended.
Im for social equality, supportive of our constitution, for fiscal responsibility and competition in the market place. Thats why I like sports so much, one can develop skills to compete at various levels and be civil about winning or losing and build a forum with lots of freedoms.

Jesus was a socialist.
Jesus came to do away with the law. Which he did by being nailed to the cross.
I do agree that he was the ultimate giver, but he never forced anyone to worship him or take up his ways. Following him and believing in him was by faith, that no man should boast.
GRACE= Gods Riches At Christ Expense

Peace

Yeah but Jesus healed the sick and fed the hungry. All for free. Believers and nonbelievers.

you're correct he did so in miraculous fashion.
Our country has many organizations of many types that are great givers to us and many abroad.

The problem is that you can't address social issues for free. At least you can't address social issues effectively without the use of money. Money = Effort

Just not enough for people to get enough to eat, medical care and a decent place to live. Schools, let's not leave out a quality education for all.

It would be nice if more churches were more accepting of those who are different than most of us. This is a message that our church has preached for the last 60 or more years. Yep, right here in Lake Oswego. That's why I love my church. They always stick up for the disadvantaged. Last week they took up a collection to send a bunch of older teenagers to Texas to help the flood victims. Wish they had enough to go to Puerto Rico where they need help the most.

Thats great about how your church reaches out and helps.
I always raised my kids as young Americans to be grateful and giving. We as a Nation have always been good at giving and assisting not only our own but others around the world.
The probable I have with pure socialistic/marxist/communist countries is that the gov takes much but gives little back to the people.
If people can be productive and sustaining they can become blessings to others.
When I pay my taxes I do so knowing it should support limited gov, our military, and some social assistance. But like in any thing it needs to be managed well.
Always enjoy your post Lanny, Ill be going ump to Casey Eye Clinic in a few weeks to see Doc. Ing.
Thats a great clinic supported by Elks organizations.

bing bang bongo...the nail on the head Fred!

We live in a country that would rather be right/on the winning side, rather than sticking to their beliefs and morals.

You make it sound like the only options are what we currently have or complete state controlled domination by social communists. I don't like those options either.

pure socialistic/marxist/communist countries
these systems have never really existed except in ideologies.....they always turn into military states with dictators...this commie fear is just McCarthyism and all attempts have had classist structures....those in power never sacrifice the finer things they can enjoy at the expense of the population.

no not at all...Im for always being proactive with finding ways to be more efficient and at the same time improve service's.
Im for limited gov and against allowing gov to grow so large with all sorts of reg's that it stifles industry and markets at consumer's expense. Im more for free enterprise with competition driving markets. Consumers are very smart and informed theses days so if a company or agency isn't providing a product or service that meets their expectations, well, the market will provide someone who will.
I rest your opinion as well.

I agree that they are really ideologies and they most always turn into military states or dictatorships. Thats what I'm totally against.
I also agree that those in power (not all but to damn many, term limits baby) have a hard time sacrificing the finer things. Let the people and markets/industry expose the greedy crooks both political & non political.
If we as citizens have superb expectations about our freedoms and ability to learn, create, provide & sustain, and couple it with a respect & civility towards each other regardless of party, race, religion, wow, it makes for a much better environment to live. These are only my thoughts...

Our church, as I have said in here, reaches out and helps. I remember back during the Hungarian uprising in the 50s when we supported a refugee family with living expenses and job retraining. We have long helped.

Our Catholic friends have also long helped. Our best friends are Catholic and they help repair homes, do yard work, deliver hot meals and give money for the needy.

All this help is about 10% of the minimum needed for the disadvantaged just to keep them going at the current substandard rate. The government must help otherwise we can go back to the 50s when people went hungry and had no place to sleep.

I've known families who've lived out of their car. Had to wash up in a filling station bathroom. And Trump wants to cut assistance to the poor?
