My computer was getting a little old so I decided to build a new one. Sooooo many options and decisions...

I went with the brand new Intel i7-4790 chip that came out last week. I probably could have gotten away with a i5 but the i7 was on sale so I went with that.

For motherboard I picked the Gigabyte Z97X-UD3H. It's based on the new Intel Z97 chipset that also came out last week with the I7-4790. I haven't built a computer in a while so maybe this isn't that neat of a feature but it has two BIOSs. Such a sweet graphical interface, easy to read w/ lots of diagnostics and access to settings. It will take me a month to see everything in the BIOSs.

Ram was a hard choice, I have 8gigs in my current system so naturally I wanted 16gigs in my new system but I had a budget. I went with only 8gigs of ram but it's Corsair Vengeance and it runs at 2100MHZ. A little more expense because it's faster then standard 1600MHZ ram. I figure I can always get 8 more gigs in 6mos when the price drops.

I've never had a SSD before, now I know what people are talking about. Fuck! I went with the 500GB Samsung 840EVO. There are some cheaper drives for the size but my theme is speed.

I also installed a 3terrabyte WD HD.

Went with a standard R/W DVD for my optical drive. Didn't have need for a Blu-ray drive in the computer... yet.

For video card I'm just moving from my old system to my new one my 2gig AMD HD Radeon 7770. I wanted to get something a little better but this works fine for everything I do. I run a 3 monitor setup, 2 desktop monitors and then a line out to the 60" Samsung TV and the Vid card handles all of that just fine. I'll get a new video card for Christmas.

Got a big black Corsair case. Tons of room. Easy to fit everything in. Came with 2 fans, bought 2 more, lol. Red LED Fans.

Very happy.

Sly wanted to be able to watch three different pornos at the same time without slowing down his system.

BTW, anyone have any Steam credits they want to give me?

wow Sly, that monster should do your laundry as well....wait till it says "I"m sorry Dave, I cant do that...."

LOL! I have Dragon Naturally Speaking so I'm used to talking to my computer, it would be nice if it talked back.

Cool Sly. Like that SSD hey? I built a new one for the boat last month. I wan't low power usage so I went with a I3-3240, plenty fast enough for the boat and internet. I would have went with the new stuff but apparently you have to go with Windows 7 or 8 an I have a bunch of stuff in the boat software that only runs with XP so I got the newest hardware that I can still gen an XP system, put 4G of memory in it and used the upper 750mg as a Ramdisk and assigned it to the page file and a bit to some satellite tracking.

I don't think I ever will need an upgrade on my Xeon quad so I may never get to an I7
Fun stuff though hey!

Mags' computer is way better!

I should have gotten a SSD for my old system a year or two ago.

Isn't Crysis like four years old? Nevermind, almost SIX years old. How the hell could computers still have trouble with it?

Because it wasn't optimized well? It still looks really good today too.

I like building rigs. I'm due for a new one next year or so.

Currently running an i7 as well, bit older than yours obviously (3820, Sandy Bridge E), running at about 3.7 GHz. It's running off the X79 SBridge (ASUS P9X79 mobo). Water-cooled (closed loop).

I like Corsair for memory as well. I'm running 16 GB (4 channels) PC3-10700 at a DRAM Frequency of .7 GHz (1333 @ 9/9/9/24 at highest latency).

I bought a big GTX 670 with the system rather than running two cards or more. 4.1 GB of memory seems to roll through pretty well anything even with new games at max settings. Mind you I'm not someone to have the FPS ticking in the corner. I played the hell out of FarCry 3 with it and it always looked great.

I'm also using an SSD. I'd never go back to mechanical drives. I have a 256 GB card as the primary drive (real size only about 223) and a 1TB mechanical card for storage. I could probably use more space on the main drive but at the time SSD's were pretty expensive in larger sizes so I had to make do.

I bought a Blu-Ray burner with the system thinking I would be making movie discs but I haven't used it much. I mostly buy digital copies of everything. I could get by without a disc drive at this point and probably would either keep the one I have now or not buy one next time around. Sign of the times I guess.
