EL PASO -
EL PASO -- An El Paso source close to Justice Antonin Scalia tells ABC-7 that the 79-year-old died in his sleep last night after a day of quail hunting at Cibolo Creek Ranch outside of Marfa, Texas.

The Justice did not report feeling ill and retired to his room after dinner. The source, who was traveling with Scalia, told ABC-7 an El Paso priest has been called to Marfa.

Scalia was the longest-serving current Justice on the Supreme Court. He was appointed by President Ronald Reagan in 1986.

Wow....big news..this means Obama gets to choose his replacement? My condolences to his family..although passing away while sleeping is the way to go

Wow, that's YUGE!

How many years can the republicans block Supreme Court appointees? I'm thinking of a situation where, 4-8 years from now, there's like 5 new appointees all being blocked, and 4 actual judges left standing.

Nah, the republicans have vowed to block the appointment until he's out of office; I imagine they'll try to block appointees until they get the presidency and retain the legistlature, which could be decades.

They'll keep blocking things until both Koch brothers can be named to the court.

People talk about the presidency but the Supreme Court is really the difference maker in govt

I nominate Cliven Bundy!

yeah..scares the heck out of me how much damage oboma can do now

you speak to logic and how things should be..when has that ever stopped oboma?

What has Obama done besides health care? We're the not Muslim or Black Panther nation that so many predicted he would turn us into. Guns are not banned. He hasn't given us fewer wars, we've only replaced Iraq with Syria.

who the hell is oboma? Our president, however has accomplished quite a few things that history will reflect on long after he's no longer president, like him or not. I don't agree with everything he's done or not done, but that does not discount his legacy..Personally, I'm really tired of him being the target of everything wrong with the country. When elected, he said, and I believe, that the problems we faced would take over 20 years to sort out..fact...it took longer than the last 7 years to screw a lot of things up...some folks logically see the long term process and others want immediate gratification.

So Assad gets a free pass...his civil war is Obamas fault too? Putin gets a free pass too? We have downsized our presence in the Middle East and thanks to the president's foreign affairs diplomacy, we have a pretty strong coalition of allies sharing the burden there.

War is good for the economy. 2 wars is doubly good.

if you guys will not see the damage that the sitting president has caused, I can not enlighten you then..

That's a dangerous move, it's no guarantee that Trump will win the election, do you block things only to have Hillary or Bernie win and select the next justice?

In which case I think Obama is the logical choice.

oboma is the second best third rate president in the history of our country.

I don't see either party having a monopoly on damage, inaction and operating in a manner that best serves themselves and not the American people.

I have to give you that..the entire system is rotten to the core, as is demonstrated in the current grass roots uprising around two very unconventional presidential candidates

I've seen the whole picture DaLincoln...I would hope all of us would not be defining the man by a policy they disagree with and completely discounting his accomplishments. I was really critical of Nixon and the second Bush but in retrospect in regards to Bush...I actually like what he's doing with Clinton in Haiti and disaster relief. Like you with Obama....I hated Bush and couldn't see past the hate. This country needs to stop hating and show some patience with the transition we're living through. The status quo in DC now seems to be to spend every tax dollar in Congress spinning to make the incumbent President unable to work across the aisle. Congress in my view has failed us miserably with a very transparent partisan agenda.

During a town hall meeting or some such about a month ago someone asked Hillary Clinton if she would consider appointing Pres. Obama to the Supreme Court. She said she had never thought about it, but said it'd be a great idea. So the R's can stall all they want, but it might not turn out too well for them in the end if they do. That would be so Hillaryous.

In simple terms...the republicans have turned their job...which is to work for the people..into an endless election campaign

Riverman..I do respect your opinion. I truly wish I could think of one thing that he has done that I agree with...I honestly can not.
I think over time, we'll look back on this post banking, auto industry, terroist, disaster ridden last few years as having pulled ourselves out of some big messes...not to mention the terror attacks that have been nipped in the bud before they got off the ground....I think taking on Wall Street, Banking, bailing out Detroit, natural disasters and fighting a very difficult enemy since he was sworn in have earned him respect for those accomplishments. He has the most difficult job on the planet and in my view...has rebuilt our loyalties from allies overseas. Many of the British are calling on banning Trump from entering the country. Trump has insulted Hispanics and Muslims...pissed off our closest neighbor in Mexico....you want a real mess....vote for Trump.
