OKLAHOMA CITY - An Oklahoma City Thunder star's quick-thinking along the Broadway Extension is being honored by a group of paramedics.

Recently, EMSA paramedic Peter Radford and two coworkers were heading to a life-threatening emergency call in Edmond, but they faced one big problem- traffic along I-235.

"Traffic was just crazy, it was 5:30 p.m.; almost unable to move," Radford told NewsChannel 4. "Then I see this little silver sports car come sliding in behind us."

The driver of the silver Ferrari was none other than Kevin Durant.

"I seen the ambulance from behind and it was kinda slow in front of me, and I moved over and said, 'I'm just gonna follow the ambulance so I can get through traffic a little quicker," Durant laughed.

"He went ahead and turned his flashers on and started to back up. As he backed up, it actually allowed us area to move around and pull over to the left, as everyone normally pulls over to the right, to ease our way through traffic. That allowed us to speed up and make it to this emergency call," Radford said.

Radford says it was one of the 'coolest things he's ever seen.'

Even though Durant says he didn't do anything special, EMSA officials are honoring his actions.

EMSA created an 'Everyday Hero' medal, which will be engraved with his name.

You know who else was an everyday hero?

th

Hella obscure, anyone who gets it... kudos to you!

Is this a joke? Cause it sure made me laugh! I kept reading expecting him to do something awesome, not get out of the way of an emergency vehicle per the law. But no, let's all show a round of applause to Kevin Durant for deciding not to block the ambulance!

They should rename this to the - Please, please stay in OKC award.

Driving in the same lane as an ambulance, unless I am mistaken, is not against the law. Nor would it seem to be poor etiquette since the general flow of traffic would seem to be further impeded if drivers refrained from reentering the wake created by the ambulance. It might make those in the slower lanes feel uncomfortable seeing others "taking advantage" of the situation, but it would appear, for the most part, it's the right thing to do.

That being said, as a nurse myself, I was expecting this story to be at least a tad more heroic or at least intentional. Instead it's a case of the idolized being recognized for doing nothing special what so ever.

Oh the privileges of the privileged.

NOt that its Durants fault, but this is obviously some sort of city wide pl;oy to get him to stay. If any average citizen was in the same situation, do you think they would get this award for backing up? Ive backed up or pulled into a parking lot to allow drive spacew for emergency vehicles, wheres my fucking ribbon?

Cheese. Doesn't deserve news.. Its a scam to get people in OKC to start working Durant over.

This is like when we had those worthless pre game ceremonies for LaMarcus

Not really, LMA always felt like the team didn't kiss his ass enough. He was 1st jealous of Roy, then Lillard.

But...

The driver of the silver Ferrari was none other than Kevin Durant.

if it means getting Durant to sign here I would have no problem with the team giving him a Ferrari police car and he can drive around blaring the sirens all he wants.

It's illegal if you follow closer than 500 feet.

500 ft, in general, is a very long distance in regards to driving behind another vehicle. I would have guessed that getting back in to the lane of the ambulance or other vehicle that is allowed to have flashing lights would be a shorter distance than that while still maintaining a safe cushion.

I am now educated on this matter and heartily thank, Dviss1, for the information that could ultimately have us all live longer [no accident] and maintain prosperity [no ticket]. :headbang::rockon:

I now hate the state of Oklahoma even more. I didn't think that was possible.

Hey, there is a slight chance I could be a hero someday. I'll just eat a lot of ribs and wine coolers and then go to the movies.

I'll fart sooo bad people will leave. Then in the off chance there is a theater shooting I'll get a medal for minimizing the casualties.

I had to read that again because it was confusing. So Durant was backing up in a traffic jam on a major Highway? Instead of pulling over to let the ambulance by, he was backing up so he could get behind it? And for that they gave him a medal? Is that right? Shouldn't he get a ticket for going the wrong way? And failure to yield for an emergency vehicle?

Question: If you are stuck in a traffic jam in the Terwilliger Curves, and some douche in a Ferrari starts backing up, do you move out of the way?

You better hope you have a dash cam, because it's difficult to prove who was at fault in that scenario.

Yeah I had to read it multiple times. Stupid fucking article. The idiot reporter even called him their power forward..... Should've just left it at forward if you don't know what the fuck you're talking about... I guess they just figured out what basketball was a couple years ago though..
