Martin, who was clearly the Kings' best player last year, appears to be the only thing holding them back this year.
They started 2-8 with him.
They went 13-14 while he was out with an injury.
They are 1-10 since his return.
13-14 versus 3-18.
Westphal has tried every lineup imaginable to fit him in but with their incredible draft this year Martin is probably no more than their 5th best player now.
With SG's Tyreke Evans and Omar Casspi having stellar rookie seasons and being much better defenders than Martin, there really is no room for him on the court.
I expect they will trade him for a center.
While Sergio initially lost PT when Martin returned, Westphal is now using Sergio more after he nearly brought them back from a 28pt deficit against Charlotte. They next had a squeaker against the Nuggets and tonight went toe-to-toe with the Spurs, losing 113-115. Sergio was the only PG who played, as Tyreke plays a similar role to Roy (SG ballhandler) with Martin now back. Udrih, who had played well as the starting SG, played PG off the bench a few games but tonight he was a DNP. Westphal seems to be leaning toward Sergio more and more.
The Kings have a mess of athletic players, much like our team, but their coach actually utilizes their athleticism so they are a lot of fun to watch. Once they balance their roster a bit, and add another lottery pick this summer, they will be a very dangerous team next year.
Petrie definitely took advantage of KP with the Sergio, Brockman and cash for Pendergraph trade. Brockman is the real deal.
