Kia Motors profit up by 7.8 percent

South Korea’s second-largest carmaker Kia Motors said on Friday its second-quarter net profit jumped 7.8 percent from a year earlier on the back of brisk overseas sales — mainly in China. Net profit in the April-June period surged to 1.18 trillion won ($1.06 billion) from 1.09 trillion won a year ago.

Sales were up 4.5 percent year-on-year to 13.1 trillion won, while operating profit fell 8.5 percent to 1.1 trillion won.
