We all diss Jersey and how the Izod center is a piece of shit in the middle of no where. Even during the Finals Era, it still felt like we were second to the Knicks. Kidd is expressing the same exact opinion.

Nothing bad said about the Nets or Jersey here from what I see...only a reminder of the known fact that even if the Knicks beat the WNBA all-stars and the Nets beat the entire USA team, the Knicks'll still get more coverage and media spotlight.

I disagree completely. It was a total slam on Nets fans for not filling the arena.

As for the media coverage, that isn't true either. Just remember who built the New York Times' new building

Hey, you can't say they don't deserve the slam. We have one of the worst crowds in the league, I'm sure you agree...there's a bunch of hard-core fans (like the guys on S2), but most of our fans sit on their asses all game long and get up only to buy another hot-dog/chips/fries/drink. Maybe I'm too used to the crazy Euro fans by now, but still...you can't even compare our crowd to Sacramento's, Houston's or Golden State's.

Sure the crowds aren't great, but that doesn't make it any less of a slam on fans that held use to hold you up on a pedestal.

In the first twenty years of the Nets being in New Jersey, tell me what kind of initiatives the Nets took to try to build up a fanbase. Were they considered "fan friendly?" Did it not hurt us that our arena was in the middle of a swamp only accessable by car and bus as opposed to an arena being in the city accessable by train like other facilities around the league?

I blame the Nets for not establishing a fanbase. I grew up in New Jersey. I realize the Knicks cast a large shadow. But David Stern said himself, that anywhere with a sizeable population would make for a great NBA franchise, and we're the most densely-populated state in the US.

If the NHL can succeed in Newark there is no reason why the Nets couldn't here.

Maybe the Nets should just get the inevitable out of the way and switch to NY Nets. Doubt it has a much of a negative impact on hardcore fans that are left. Already have NY Jets and NY Giants playing in the swamp with good fan support. You get the existing fans use to rooting for them as a NY team before the move (less dramatic than a name change AND a move happening simultaneously), plus you probably get more NYers taking interest in the team before the move.

If they are rebuilding they better due something to attract a new fanbase before they have to move literally into the Knicks shadow and are an inferior team (I think i just threw up in my mouth).

That's why LBJ would not entertain the thought of coming to the NJ Nets, but the Brooklyn Nets.....hey, hey, that's a different story. Blame the media and NBA on that.

After everything that's gone down the ownership would be idiots to use the name Brooklyn over the name New York. Using anything other than NY pushes them down to an outer market team even if it is a boro in the same city. Using NY puts them side by side with the Knicks, which is the only thing they should entertain. Brooklyn is a cool concept that will become a novelty in a few years.

Plus NJ fans are use to rooting for NY teams, not so much Brooklyn. It's like rooting for the Islanders.
