KP's job is not to be liked - it is to manage the roster/coaching staff to make Portland a better team and at one time - a contender. If his reputation is so bad that he never makes anything happen - he fails. So far, he most certainly got a lot to happen for this team to bring it from 21 wins to 54.

There are, I am certain, several GMs that do not like KP - and there are some that I have heard publicly express their admiration to the job he has done. So, at this point - who really cares. KP needs to make this team better. If some GMs do not like him because he will not give the cap-space/expiring and good prospects for the aging, long-term crap contract - so be it.

C'Mon, look at players that the Jazz have. Okur for one. You don't think that Detroit wanted to keep him back in the day? Utah grossly overpaid for him. Look at the Lakers when they signed Shaq away from the Magic. It happens all the time is this league.

Basically the national media thinks that only certain teams are allowed to bully other teams and get away with it. LA is allowed to all of the time. NY has used its market and means to try and steal players. It is a business. As far as the Pritchslap nonsense, that came from the fans. I don't believe that KP coined it. Nobody in this league gives you players just because they like you. You think if KP came off as being less arrogant that other teams would have given him a lopsided trade? This is a legitimate topic of conversation... David Aldridge, Wojo and other national columinsts who break tons of deals in the NBA have flat out said that other GM's don't like KP and are reluctant to deal with him.. that is BAD business.

One more thing about the NBA being business partners. If that is the case then the NFL, and MLB should be the same. Look at what the Minnesota Vikings did to the Seahawks a couple of years ago. Steve Hutchinson was only 25 and arguably the best LG in football. The Vikings prepared a "poison pill" clause stating that if any RB on the team made more than Hutch than the entire 7 year contract was guaranteed. They knew the Seahawks had just signed Shaun Alexander to a long-term deal, and Minnesota had very poor talent at running back (prior to Adrian Peterson). Due to the way that the Salary Cap works in the NFL it made it nearly impossible for Seattle to match the offer (Hutch was a RFA).

Have the Vikings been black-balled for it by the other GM's? No! It has completely decimated Seattle's running game, but nobody else around the league cares. I think comparing the NBA to the NFL is much more accurate than Ford vs. Chevy.

Like I said, it is a cut-throat business. KP swooped into the 2006 draft when the entire NBA was saying how poor of a draft it was and were trying to trade down and out, and he targeted what has turned out to be 2 of the best players in the draft and turned our franchise around. As far as Memphis goes, it is hard to believe that they are not colluding with the Lakers. They gave them Gasol (probably should have been stopped by the league office), they signed Miles when they really had no use for him (cut him this off-season). They are a garbage franchise. I have no respect for them. That is the GM that out to be black-balled. He doesn't operate in the best interest of his fans even. I say, Thank God for KP.

Since when are small market teams the big bad bullies? This is ridiculous. If Memphis can sign Miles for no other reason than to mess up our capspace, we're certaintly within our right to go after the best player available in FA. Nobody called Cuban a big bad bully for trying to sign Gortat. IMO, if the Blazers really wanted Utah to match, and we're just doing this to anger them, they wouldn't have gone and added the huge money up front, etc. The contract seems actually designed to try and prevent them from matching.

Ok so now you again are attributing a move by a GM to emotion "KP is screwing over Utah just to anger them." What's more you go on to suggest that Wallace just wanted to thumb his nose at KP? Are you kidding me? Memphis made MILLIONS with that move and was willing to potentially burn a bridge with us to do it. KP and Wallace's opinion of one another probably didn't enter the equation other then as an after thought.

KP might need to tone it down, but it also seems alot of this is jealousy pure and simple. Not to mention the national media desperately wants to see Oden, Roy et al on big market teams preferably in the East. I can't remember a time when the National Media really portrayed Porltand well or even fairly UNTIL KP came to town.

I can recall around Y2K the constant mention of Blazer team salary being 90M+ by the national media. They would harp on it in every broadcast and magazine article as if it was some sort of terrible shame for a small market to spend money like a big market.

I doubt the national media will ever embrace a Blazer club as they want the marquee teams involved for bigger ratings. As the team progresses, I expect some sort of negative narrative to develop about the club and be repeated ad nausea. Clyde's era was that they were stupid. Then it was Sheed's Jailblazers. I doubt that they'll settle on KP is a big meanie as the next theme but we'll see
